PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thibault Fernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chase Mathis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chase Mathis told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Micheangelo Fripello and Josh West.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fernandez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Nice jab there from Fernandez.
Fernandez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Mathis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Fernandez to the mat! Fernandez manages to get full guard.

Mathis gets to his feet. Fernandez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Fernandez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mathis.
Fernandez slaps away a takedown attempt from Mathis, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mathis is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Mathis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Mathis avoids the body shot from Fernandez.
Mathis shoots for a takedown but Fernandez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mathis closes the distance and clinches up with Fernandez, looking for a takedown. Mathis pushes Fernandez against the cage but Fernandez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Thibault Fernandez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chase Mathis.

Mathis tries to clinch but Fernandez is having none of it.

and Fernandez counters with a stiff right hand.

and Fernandez counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Mathis doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Fernandez scores with a hook to the body. Mathis takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Fernandez cracks a nice hook into Mathis's ribs.
Fernandez is looking to wear down Mathis with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Mathis looks winded!
Mathis tries to clinch but Fernandez moves away
and Fernandez counters with a nice body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fernandez connects with a looping right hand.
Mathis closes the distance and clinches up with Fernandez, looking for a takedown. Mathis pushes Fernandez against the cage but Fernandez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mathis shoots in looking for a takedown but Fernandez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mathis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Fernandez lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Fernandez fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Fernandez bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Mathis's head backwards.

Mathis is rocked!
Chase Mathis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fernandez plants his feet and throws a 3 punch combo. Miss, miss, boom! The third punch, a big right hook, connects right on the temple and drops Mathis to the mat, unconscious! This fight is all over! Mathis just couldn't keep out of the way of the whole flurry of punches!
