Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chase Mathis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobo Yaya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chase Mathis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bobo Yaya!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mathis is defended easily by Yaya.
Mathis moves away from the strike by Yaya.
Mathis avoids the head kick by Yaya.

Mathis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mathis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Mathis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Yaya was well out of range. Poor timing from Mathis.
Yaya misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mathis wants to clinch up but Yaya keeps it at a distance.
Yaya misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Yaya misses with a series of wild punches.
Yaya is looking to clinch.

Yaya tries to sprawl but Mathis drives through with a takedown into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mathis controlling the pace.
Yaya keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Still in half guard, Mathis seems content to control.
Mathis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Chase Mathis has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Yaya gets caught napping as Mathis dives in and scores a takedown. Yaya manages to retain guard.
Yaya is looking to stand up but Mathis isn't so interested in that idea.
Mathis wants to pass the guard but Yaya is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mathis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Yaya working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Mathis.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Yaya fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Yaya takes one to the chin there.
Yaya misses with a left hand
and Mathis counters with a head kick.

Mathis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Mathis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Yaya looks winded!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Yaya wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Mathis.
Mathis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Poor strikes thrown by Mathis there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Mathis landing strikes from the mount.
Mathis lands a big elbow.
Mathis landing punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mathis has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Yaya's face.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mathis misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chase Mathis dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Yaya rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mathis moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Yaya throws a sloppy head kick and Mathis moves out of range easily.
Mathis slips a jab and a cross from Yaya.
Some wild striking there from Yaya.
Mathis swats away the attempt to clinch by Yaya.
Chase Mathis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sloppy strikes from Yaya. Those never looked like landing.
Mathis shoots in but Yaya avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Mathis gets a clinch.
Yaya is breathing heavily.

Mathis breaks from the clinch.
Mathis lands a jab to Yaya's midsection.
Yaya's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Yaya duly obliges.
Mathis fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Yaya manages to avoid it.

Mathis clinches up with Yaya and pushes him back against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mathis jumps guard.
Yaya must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mathis pushes Yaya off and gets back to his feet.
Bobo Yaya seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mathis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Mathis slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Chase Mathis.
Mathis thows a left - swing and a miss!
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Mathis here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Mathis closes the distance and clinches.

Mathis has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Yaya regains guard immediately.
Mathis controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Chase Mathis just wasn't active enough.
Yaya scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Mathis shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Yaya but Yaya pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Mathis takes the fight into the clinch.

Mathis breaks from the clinch.
Yaya scores with a nice body kick.
Mathis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Yaya misses with a jab, cross combination.
Yaya rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mathis moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mathis darts in and clinches Yaya up against the cage.
Yaya is trying to break the clinch but Mathis has him pressed against the cage.

Mathis turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Mathis controls the position.

Mathis has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Mathis moves into the clinch.
Yaya wants to take the fight to the mat but Mathis manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Mathis jumps guard and drags Yaya to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Mathis lands some strikes from the bottom.

Mathis is looking to sinch up a triangle. Yaya throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Mathis's body to avoid the submission. Mathis has instead reached around Yaya's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Mathis arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Chase Mathis!
