Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Samuel Vasconcelos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chase Mathis!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasconcelos tries to clinch up.
Vasconcelos throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Mathis drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mathis trying to control but Vasconcelos is working from the bottom.

Vasconcelos is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mathis is aware though and is defending well.

Vasconcelos isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mathis stacks Vasconcelos on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mathis!

Mathis doesn't manage to clinch there - Vasconcelos circles away.
Vasconcelos uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mathis.
Mathis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mathis wants it to stay on the feet.

Mathis has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Mathis tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mathis has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mathis takes a little break here. Vasconcelos wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chase Mathis dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Vasconcelos shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mathis as he jumps to the side.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A low kick from Mathis is predictable there
and Vasconcelos counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Mathis is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Vasconcelos shoots for a takedown but Mathis saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Vasconcelos enables Mathis to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Vasconcelos manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Vasconcelos has momentary wrist control but Mathis slips an elbow through the middle.

Mathis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Mathis closes the distance and clinches.
Vasconcelos is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mathis pulls him back up using the underhooks.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mathis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Vasconcelos misses with a takedown attempt - Mathis sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Mathis tries to score with a low kick but Vasconcelos moves his leg out of the way.

Mathis is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mathis cracks Vasconcelos with a solid left hand.

Mathis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Vasconcelos sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mathis lands a nice short elbow.
Mathis is trying to control. Vasconcelos wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mathis thows a huge punch but Vasconcelos dodges it nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chase Mathis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Vasconcelos tries to buck Mathis off but Mathis is having none of it.
Vasconcelos is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Mathis is controlling him well.

Mathis slips a nice elbow through Vasconcelos's hands, connecting with Vasconcelos's forehead.

Vasconcelos is looking to escape.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mathis seems to be working for a kimura but Vasconcelos defends the submission attempt.

Mathis looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Vasconcelos won't allow Mathis to pass to mount.

Vasconcelos is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Mathis looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Samuel Vasconcelos wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Mathis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mathis fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Vasconcelos manages to avoid it.

Mathis is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Vasconcelos has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Vasconcelos!

Vasconcelos looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Vasconcelos looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Samuel Vasconcelos has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Chase Mathis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Chase Mathis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mathis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
