PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyra Finesmith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Wong might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Kendrick Lamar - RIgamortus. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Wong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lyra Finesmith!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wong takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Some wild striking there from Wong.
Wong stuffs the takedown attempt from Finesmith. Finesmith gets slowly back to his feet.
Finesmith jabs at Wong's body.
Finesmith throws a half hearted mid kick.
Wong lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
The fight stays on the outside here - Wong looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Wong misses with a wild body shot.

Finesmith scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Finesmith tries to pass to full mount but Wong defends it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Lyra Finesmith was stalling too much, according to the referee.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Finesmith should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Wong wants to break the clinch but can't.

Finesmith successfully pulls guard.
Finesmith is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Wong working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Finesmith's head.

Finesmith pulls Wong in close to prevent any damage.
Wong throws a strike but Finesmith rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Finesmith is pushing down on Wong's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wong is fighting to maintain full guard but Finesmith has managed to sneak the leg through.
Wong on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Wong is trying to escape back to his feet but Finesmith uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Finesmith has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Wong!
Finesmith takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Finesmith get's back to his feet.
Finesmith throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Wong.
Finesmith looks for a takedown but Wong sprawls well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lyra Finesmith dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Finesmith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wong sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Finesmith somewhat.
Finesmith showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Wong.
Finesmith fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Finesmith gets the takedown into side control.
Finesmith lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Finesmith stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Wong is looking to clinch but Finesmith is avoiding it.
Finesmith shoots for a double leg takedown but Wong sprawls well. He's pushed Finesmith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
James Wong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lyra Finesmith.

Wong tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Finesmith gets a clinch.
Wong is trying to break the clinch but Finesmith has him pressed against the cage.

Finesmith breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Finesmith drives through and clinches with Wong against the cage.
Wong prevents the takedown attempt.
Wong is trying to push Finesmith away but Finesmith has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Wong lands a head kick. Finesmith smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


It looks like Lyra Finesmith has been cut.
Finesmith is breathing heavily.

Wong tries to clinch but Finesmith moves out of range.
Wong throws a nice looking combination but Finesmith bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Wong tries to clinch but Finesmith is having none of it.
Finesmith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Wong swivels and escapes.
Finesmith shoots and misses
and Wong counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Wong lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Finesmith tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Finesmith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Finesmith closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Wong to the mat! Wong manages to get full guard.
Finesmith postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Finesmith trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Wong is looking to stand up but Finesmith isn't so interested in that idea.

Finesmith is looking to work some ground and pound but Wong has wrist control.
Finesmith is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Finesmith slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Wong tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Finesmith manages to capitalize on a mistake by Wong to take his back!

Finesmith is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Finesmith stands up from Wong's guard - Finesmith perhaps looking for a knockout.
Finesmith throws a series of punches but Wong avoids them all with ease.

Finesmith has closed the distance and engaged Wong in a clinch.

Finesmith has clasped his hands together around Wong's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Finesmith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Wong is not content to let Finesmith control the position.
Wong tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Wong wants to get back to his feet.
Wong is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Finesmith.
Finesmith lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Wong.

Finesmith is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Wong is tapping out! This one is all over!
