Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Igor Varnimov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nick Reyes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Igor Varnimov!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Dillan Fox and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Varnimov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Reyes pinned against the cage. Reyes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Varnimov shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Varnimov was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Reyes really wants to buck Varnimov off and get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reyes really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Varnimov scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Varnimov is landing with some decent strikes but Reyes is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Reyes slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Varnimov working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Reyes is looking for a sweep. Varnimov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Reyes is pressing down on Varnimov's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Varnimov controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Varnimov throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Reyes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Varnimov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Varnimov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Reyes looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Reyes wants to sweep but no luck.
Reyes is breathing heavily.
Varnimov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Reyes is keeping the position for now.

Reyes looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Reyes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Reyes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Varnimov controls the pace.

Varnimov gets to his feet - Reyes follows without any prompting.

Varnimov darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Reyes tries to kick Varnimov off but Varnimov keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Varnimov in particular looking to stall.

Varnimov stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Varnimov tries to clinch but Reyes moves out of range.
Varnimov tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Reyes swivels and escapes.
Reyes throws a head kick that Varnimov semi-blocks.
Varnimov tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Varnimov misses with a takedown attempt - Reyes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Nick Reyes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Igor Varnimov.

Reyes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Reyes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

and Reyes counters with a nice double leg into side control. Varnimov won't be happy with that.

Reyes stands up and we're back to a striking position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Reyes moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

and Reyes counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Varnimov's guard now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Reyes dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Varnimov throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Reyes counters with a single leg into guard. Varnimov didn't expect that.

Reyes stands and steps away. Varnimov gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Reyes is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Reyes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A body shot lands from Reyes.
Reyes landing knees to the body.
Varnimov is breathing heavily.

Reyes breaks from the clinch.
Reyes's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Reyes duly obliges.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Reyes cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Reyes stands up from mount. Strange move.
Varnimov doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Reyes counters with a nice double leg into side control. Varnimov won't be happy with that.
Nick Reyes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Igor Varnimov.

Reyes tries for a kimura but Varnimov is defending well.
Varnimov wants to control but Reyes postures up.
Reyes postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Reyes in side control, throwing shots but Varnimov defends.
Reyes tries to move to mount but Varnimov blocks the move with his legs.

Reyes goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Varnimov has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Reyes but great work by Varnimov.

Varnimov is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Reyes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Reyes uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Reyes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Varnimov doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Reyes counters with a single leg into guard. Varnimov didn't expect that.

Reyes stands up and waves to Varnimov to follow him.
Reyes lands a jab-cross combination.
Reyes tries for a takedown but Varnimov sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Reyes throws a head kick but Varnimov moves out of range.

and Reyes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Varnimov's guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Varnimov wants to sweep but no luck.
Reyes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Varnimov is keeping the position for now.
Varnimov is trying to keep Reyes in close.
Varnimov wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Varnimov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Varnimov wriggles free and stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Reyes dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Varnimov tries to clinch but Reyes moves away

Varnimov wants to get back to his feet but Reyes is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Reyes passes Varnimov's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Reyes tries to pass the half guard into mount. Varnimov knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Reyes wants to stand up but Varnimov has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Reyes has gone for a leg lock! Varnimov slips out almost immediately though and dives into Reyes's guard.

Nick Reyes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Reyes wants to stand back up but Varnimov manages to pass into side control.
Reyes is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Varnimov is tying to control. Reyes wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Reyes manages to get to full guard.
Varnimov throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Reyes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Varnimov is controlling him.
Reyes wants to sweep here but Varnimov controlling him for the moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Reyes blocks a head kick by Varnimov.
Crunch! Reyes slams his shin into Varnimov's torso.
Reyes throws a right hand that Varnimov ducks under and follows up with a left that Varnimov also avoids with ease.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reyes throws a series of punches but Varnimov avoids them all with ease.

Varnimov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Reyes is looking for a sweep. Varnimov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Reyes wants to get back to his feet.
Reyes moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Reyes had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Varnimov is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Reyes Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Varnimov's back instead.
Varnimov breaks Reyes's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Reyes looking for a guillotine here but Varnimov defends easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Nick Reyes.
Well Reyes has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
