Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Poppy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kjell Sword (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nick Poppy!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kjell Sword!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sword misses with a takedown attempt

and Poppy counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Poppy.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Poppy advances position into side control!
Sword is looking for a sweep.
Sword is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Poppy is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Poppy is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Sword has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Sword gets back to half guard.

Sword wants to improve his position but Poppy is controlling well.

Poppy is working for a kimura but Sword is defending it quite comfortably.
Sword is trying to get back to full guard.
Sword is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Poppy is keen to just control but Sword is a slippery customer.

Poppy looking for a submission but Sword manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

and Poppy counters with a straight right hand.
Poppy is looking to score with low kicks.
Sword shoots for a takedown but Poppy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nick Poppy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kjell Sword.
Horrible takedown by Sword or perhaps it was just good defense by Poppy which made him look bad.

That was a close round but I would say that Nick Poppy will probably get the nod.

Sword closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Sword works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Poppy gets back to half guard.
Sword working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sword lands a nice short elbow.
Poppy regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Sword.

Sword avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sword is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Poppy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Poppy is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sword sees it coming and defends easily.
Sword wants to control but Poppy is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Poppy is keen to just control but Sword is a slippery customer.
Poppy is really struggling to control Sword but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Poppy is controlling the pace.
Poppy wants to free his trapped foot but Sword is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Nick Poppy has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
No luck for Sword with that takedown attempt.

Poppy missing with a left hand there. Sword was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Sword has his takedown stuffed

and Poppy counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sword won't be happy with that.
Sword is looking to reverse the position.

Poppy looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Poppy is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sword knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Poppy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Sword is not content to let Poppy control the position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sword tries to bench press Poppy off him but Poppy keeps the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Nick Poppy will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Sword shoots in looking for a takedown. Poppy tries to sprawl out of it but Sword keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Poppy manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Sword throws an overhand right that lands on Poppy's shoulder, as Poppy tries to avoid the shot.

Poppy is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sword defends it well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Poppy is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sword is just riding it out for now. Poppy eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Poppy in particular looking to stall.
Poppy is looking to take a break and control but Sword is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Poppy prevents Sword from improving his position.
Poppy tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sword knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Nick Poppy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sword not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Sword drops an elbow to the side of Poppy's head.
Kjell Sword has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Nick Poppy showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Poppy, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Nick Poppy retains his title. It's always disappointing when a championship fight ends as a draw but that's what happens when you leave the fight in the judges hands!
