Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Phillipi Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dominic Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Phillipi Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dominic Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendes is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Nelson's half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Mendes is trying to control. Nelson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Mendes wants to work for an arm triangle but Nelson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Nelson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mendes's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mendes's back!
Mendes tries to roll but Nelson sticks to his back.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Nelson is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Nelson gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Nelson gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Nelson apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Mendes manages to pull guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Nelson's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Mendes looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Nelson passes into half guard.
Nelson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Nelson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mendes sees it coming and defends easily.

Nelson seems to be working for a kimura but Mendes defends the submission attempt.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nelson works his foot free and advances to mount.
Mendes is trying to escape the mount.
Mendes is working hard here to advance position.
Mendes is breathing heavily.
Mendes is squirming around, avoiding Nelson's attempts to control the action.
Mendes really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Nelson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Mendes is in a horrible position here. Nelson smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Nelson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Mendes has worked his arm free - good work by Mendes!

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Nelson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendes taking punishment in the form of punches.

Mendes is looking for a sweep.

Nelson decides to stand back up.

Mendes closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Nelson quickly recovers to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fighters are battling for position here. Nelson manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Mendes wants to control from the top but Nelson keeps moving.

Mendes is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Nelson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Nelson has escaped and now he's on top!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mendes has his foot on Nelson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nelson works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dominic Nelson dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Nelson closes the distance and clinches.

Mendes pulls Nelson into guard.

Mendes working for a triangle but Nelson defends it easily.

Mendes working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Nelson has passed into half guard!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mendes trying to hold on to Nelson's head to control him but Nelson postures up.

Nelson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mendes is just riding it out for now. Nelson eventually gives up the hold.
Nelson is taking a breather. Mendes says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Nelson working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Mendes gets back to full guard.
Nelson passes Mendes's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Nelson in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Mendes tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Nelson!
