Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kimbo Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carl Menger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson comes to the cage accompanied by Step into a world - KRS One. Menger has chosen Bring Back The Music - by Sweatshop Union as his entrance music. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Kimbo Nelson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carl Menger!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson misses the shot to the body.
Nelson takes a swing at Menger's ribcage but misses.
Menger looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nelson lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Menger at a distance.
Menger is looking to clinch but Nelson is avoiding it.
Menger lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Menger closes this distance looking for a takedown but Nelson circles away.
Nelson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Menger will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A looping hook to the body misses from Nelson. Menger does a little dance to reset his feet.
Nelson scores with a nice body kick.
Menger misses with a straight left.
Nelson takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Nelson lands with a hook. Menger tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Menger looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Nelson is fending him off so far but Menger persists. Nope, Nelson circles away and we're back to standing.
Kimbo Nelson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carl Menger.

Menger moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Menger throws a hook but Nelson avoids it easily.
Carl Menger seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nelson misses with the combination.
Nelson thows a body shot but no joy.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Menger.
Menger thuds his right hand into Nelson's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Menger gets a takedown into half guard.
Nelson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Menger postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Menger in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Menger content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Menger throws an elbow that misses. Nelson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Menger's guard. Nice move by Nelson!

Menger throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Nelson escapes and throws Menger's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Nelson works to advance to full mount. Menger defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Menger is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Menger manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Nelson not doing much here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Kimbo Nelson just wasn't active enough.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Menger is defended easily by Nelson.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kimbo Nelson will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Nelson is looking to chop away at Menger's legs.
Menger with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Nelson to score with a decent uppercut.
Menger throws a right hand that Nelson ducks under and follows up with a left that Nelson also avoids with ease.
Menger will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Nelson misses with a body shot.
Menger on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
A looping hook to the body misses from Nelson. Menger does a little dance to reset his feet.
Menger rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Nelson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Nelson, right into the meat.

Nelson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Menger.

Menger has taken the fight to the clinch.
Nelson tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Menger misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Menger fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kimbo Nelson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carl Menger.

Menger has Nelson up against the cage in a clinch.
Menger has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Nelson after a bit of a struggle.

Nelson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Nelson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Menger manages to avoid it.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Menger comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
That kick from Nelson tenderised Menger's leg. Menger is trying to keep his angry face on.
Nelson throws a body punch but Menger moves out of range.
Menger throws a big shot that misses.
Menger checks the leg kick nicely there.
Nelson's jab looks to have found its range, popping Menger under the eye.
Menger shoots in for a double leg but Nelson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Menger takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Menger changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nelson tries to avoid it but Menger manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nelson to the ground. Nelson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Menger is breathing heavily.

Kimbo Nelson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Menger shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nelson pinned against the cage. Nelson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nelson throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Menger is defended easily by Nelson.
Nelson lands a head shot.
Menger throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Nelson sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Menger throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Nelson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Menger is in Nelson's guard.

Nelson tries to get to full guard but Menger has control of the leg.
Carl Menger has got the better of the ground game so far.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Menger lands a nice short elbow.
Nelson wants to control but Menger is keeping busy.

Menger is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Nelson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Menger is working away from the top position though.
Menger is looking to advance position but Nelson won't allow it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Nelson is looking to wear down Menger with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Menger looks for a takedown but Nelson sprawls well.
Nelson lands with a thumping leg kick.
Menger throws a solid leg kick but Nelson takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Menger.
Menger throws a series of punches but Nelson moves out of range.
Menger throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Menger uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Nelson.
Nelson turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Nelson shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Carl Menger is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Menger takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Nelson slaps away a takedown attempt from Menger, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Menger takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Nelson.

Menger shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Nelson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Menger missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Nelson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Menger is working Nelson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Menger throws a strike but Nelson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Menger had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nelson defends it easily.
Menger manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Menger looking to ground and pound but Nelson is blocking nicely.

Menger misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Poor strikes thrown by Menger there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Menger looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Menger pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Nelson sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Nelson is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Menger thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Nelson's head.

Menger is just content to waste time from the top position. Nelson takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Menger's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

And that's the end of the fight!
Carl Menger comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Menger has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
