PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jay Krill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Die Antwoord (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Krill comes to the cage accompanied by Song For The Ville. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jay Krill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Die Antwoord!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Bruno Hogan and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Antwoord is looking to clinch.
Antwoord gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Krill counters with a one-two to the body.
Antwoord tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Krill counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Antwoord forces Krill back against the cage and clinches.
Antwoord looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Antwoord is working for takedown but Krill is calmly controlling the position for now.
Krill is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Antwoord pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Antwoord prevents the takedown attempt.
Krill drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Krill. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Krill tries to circle away but Antwoord has him pinned against the cage.

Krill is working for takedown but Antwoord is calmly controlling the position for now.
Krill is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Antwoord gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Antwoord is pressed up against the cage. Krill has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Antwoord down to the mat. Antwoord avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Antwoord is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Antwoord shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Krill counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Antwoord has his foot on Krill's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Krill works his way back into a safe position though.
Antwoord seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Antwoord looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Antwoord is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Antwoord is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Krill is aware though and is defending well.
Krill might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Antwoord manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Krill manages to get himself to full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Antwoord won't allow Krill to get back to his feet.
Antwoord not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Antwoord fails with the takedown.
Krill misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

and Krill counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Antwoord!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Antwoord looks gassed!
Antwoord holds on, trying desperately to control.
Antwoord regains half guard.

Krill with the ground and pound but Antwoord uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Krill trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Antwoord working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Krill.

Antwoord looking to hit a scissor sweep but Krill is one step ahead there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Krill postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Krill throws a big right hand that misses.
Antwoord working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Krill.
Krill tries to stand but Antwoord is controlling from the bottom.
Krill loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Antwoord trying to keep a closed guard but Krill is proving a slippery customer.
Krill wants to pass the guard but Antwoord is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Krill dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Krill drives through with a takedown into guard.
Krill is looking to work some ground and pound but Antwoord has wrist control.
Krill stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Antwoord swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Krill trying to control the position from guard on top but Antwoord is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Krill working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Antwoord working for a triangle but Krill defends it easily.
Krill throws an elbow that misses. Antwoord uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Krill's guard. Nice move by Antwoord!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jay Krill.
Antwoord closes the distance but Krill moves to the side

and Krill counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Krill postures up and lands a big shot to Antwoord's brow.
Antwoord is looking to sweep but instead, Krill has passed into half guard.
Antwoord wants to control but Krill is keeping busy.
Antwoord is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Krill is staying active.
Krill wants to control but Antwoord is keeping him busy.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Antwoord avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Krill.
Krill thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Antwoord's head.
Antwoord on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Antwoord throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Krill connects with a nice short shot to Antwoord's temple.
Jay Krill overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Krill is thwarting Antwoord's attempts to control the position.

Krill looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Krill is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Antwoord manages to get to full guard.

Antwoord looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Krill throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Krill won't allow Antwoord to get back to his feet.
Antwoord is trying to control the position but Krill postures up.
Antwoord might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Krill kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Krill missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Antwoord wants to clinch

and Krill counters with a single leg into guard. Antwoord didn't expect that.

Krill connects with a couple of short punches.
Krill wants to control from the top but Antwoord keeps moving.
Krill looking to sit in guard and control but Antwoord gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Antwoord postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Krill is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Antwoord, into his guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Krill accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Krill is looking to work some ground and pound but Antwoord has wrist control.
Krill wants to control from the top but Antwoord keeps moving.

Antwoord looking to control.

Krill stands and throws Antwoord's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Antwoord struggling a bit here.
Krill throws a strike aimed at the side of Antwoord's head but Antwoord avoids it well.

Antwoord tries to bench press Krill off him but Krill keeps the position.

Antwoord takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Krill wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Antwoord, who protects the arm well.
Antwoord wants to control but Krill postures up.
Krill creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Antwoord manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Krill is trying to stand back up but Antwoord is controlling him
Antwoord is trying to control. Krill wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Die Antwoord.

and Antwoord counters with a one-two to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Krill throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Die Antwoord has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jay Krill is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Antwoord stuffs the takedown attempt from Krill. Krill gets slowly back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jay Krill showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Krill, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Jay Krill spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
