PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Vince Gumina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Blaze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vince Gumina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gary Blaze!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Blaze instigates a clinch.
A short right from Blaze on the inside.
Gumina gets underhooks to prevent Blaze's takedown attempt.
Blaze goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Gumina lands a right hand.
Gumina has Blaze pressed against the cage.
Blaze is trying to drag Gumina to the mat but Gumina just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Gumina gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Blaze regains guard.
Blaze working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gumina.
Gumina seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Gumina stands and throws Blaze's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Blaze is looking to reverse the position.
A lull in the action here as Gumina stalls from top position.
Blaze really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gumina. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Blaze tries for a takedown but Gumina circles away easily

so Gumina counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Vince Gumina has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gary Blaze.

Gumina slips nicely into half guard.

Gumina is thwarting Blaze's attempts to control the position.

Blaze has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gumina is working away from the top position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Blaze throws a right and a left that both miss.

Blaze looks gassed!

Gumina is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Still in half guard, Gumina seems content to control.
Blaze wants to get back to full guard.
Gumina looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Gumina moves nicely into side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gumina misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Gumina is putting a hurting on Blaze here, landing some big shots from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Gumina closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Blaze did well to prevent Gumina getting side control.

Gumina takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Gumina has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Vince Gumina has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Gumina shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Blaze's guard.
Blaze utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Gumina seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Blaze for as long as he can get away with.

Blaze throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Gumina avoids the head kick by Blaze.
Gumina defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Blaze.
Blaze is breathing heavily.
Gumina looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Gumina shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Gumina was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Gumina is landing with some decent strikes but Blaze is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Blaze doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Gumina counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Gumina content to stall in guard here.
Gumina postures up in Blaze's guard and throws a big left but Blaze blocks it.
Gumina controlling from the top position.
Blaze wants to stand but Gumina is controlling the position.
Gumina is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Blaze takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Vince Gumina wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Gumina circles away from the clinch attempt

and Gumina counters with a shoot takedown. Blaze fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gumina is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Gumina passes Blaze's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gumina throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Vince Gumina.
Gumina connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Gumina rushes Blaze and presses him up against the cage.
Blaze wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gumina has him pressed against the cage.
Blaze has a couple of punches blocked by Gumina.

Gumina breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Blaze is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Gumina's half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gumina manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Gumina seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gumina is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Gumina stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Blaze to get to his feet.

Gumina is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Gumina decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Blaze wants to clinch up but Gumina keeps it at a distance.

Gumina feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gumina stands up over Blaze, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Gumina drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gumina jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Gary Blaze has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gumina is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Well Gumina has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
