PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Clay Guida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Totally Stink (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clay Guida had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 156.9lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Clay Guida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Totally Stink!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stink tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Guida paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Guida drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Stink is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Guida controls the position from side control.
Stink is looking for a sweep.
Stink really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Guida. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Stink struggling a bit here.
Stink is looking for a sweep.
Guida is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Stink will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Stink wants to control but Guida postures up.
Stink throws an elbow that doesn't really do any damage.
Stink is pushing Guida's head away, looking to escape. Guida manages to hold on to the position though.
Guida scoring with punches from side control.
Stink trying to remain calm as Guida controls from the top position.
Stink can't do much from the bottom here.
Stink takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The referee asks Guida politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Guida prefers to stall for the moment though.
Stink is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Guida asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Guida creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Guida lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Guida tries for a kimura but Stink is defending well.
Guida content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Stink on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Stink sneaks back into half guard.
Guida landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Stink blocking the ground and pound attempt from Guida.

Guida is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Guida moves into full mount! Stink won't be happy about that!

Guida goes for an armbar but Stink turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Stink.
Guida pulls Stink in close to his closed guard and prevents Stink from doing any damage or advancing position.

Stink stays in close to Guida's body and controls the position.
Stink wants to pass the guard but Guida is keeping the position.
Stink stopping the sweep attempt from Guida.
Stink looking to sit in guard and control but Guida gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clay Guida dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Stink swats away the attempt to clinch by Guida.
Guida is looking to clinch but Stink is avoiding it.
Guida avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Guida shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stink but Stink pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Stink tries to clinch up
and Guida makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Stink avoids the body shot from Guida.
Horrible takedown by Guida or perhaps it was just good defense by Stink which made him look bad.
Guida fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Stink avoids it really well and circles away.

Clay Guida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stink tries to score a power double leg takedown but Guida sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Stink somewhat.

and Guida counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Guida takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Guida takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Stink laying and praying for a moment but Guida takes advantage and regains half guard.

Guida pushes Stink off and gets back to his feet.

Guida looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Stink is fending him off so far but Guida persists. Nope, Stink circles away and we're back to standing.
Stink tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Stink forces Guida back against the cage and clinches.

Guida tries to pull guard but Stink holds him up against the cage and eventually Guida drops back down to his feet.

Guida pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Stink tries to clinch there but Guida circles away.
Stink shoots in looking for a takedown. Guida tries to sprawl out of it but Stink keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Guida manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Guida is defended easily by Stink.

Stink gets caught napping as Guida dives in and scores a takedown. Stink manages to retain guard.

Stink is trying to control the position but Guida postures up.
Guida trying to control but Stink is working from the bottom.
Stink has momentary wrist control but Guida slips an elbow through the middle.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Guida slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Guida has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Guida drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Stink dives on top into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Clay Guida will probably get the nod.
That's time! Guida's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Guida shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Stink manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Stink controls Guida momentarily but Guida frees himself.
Stink tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Guida is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Guida postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Stink keeping moving, preventing Guida from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Guida sitting in guard here, content to control.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Clay Guida just wasn't active enough.

Guida drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Stink manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Guida has Stink in his guard.
Clay Guida overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Stink trying to stand up but can't free himself from Guida's guard.
Guida has Stink pulled in close to control his posture.
Guida tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Stink wants to control from the top but Guida keeps moving.
Stink looking to pass the guard.
Guida trying to keep a closed guard but Stink is proving a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Clay Guida wasn't doing enough on the ground.
The fight stays on the outside here - Guida looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Stink throws a low kick, looking for Guida's leg but Guida calmly moves out of range.

Guida manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Stink on his heels. He'll look to pass Stink's guard now, I'm sure.

Stink avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

You can see the frustration on Stink's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Guida wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stink keeps working.
Guida is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Stink regains half guard.

Stink is refusing to be controlled, as Guida sits in half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Guida in particular looking to stall.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Clay Guida wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Stink is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Guida shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Stink sprawls well. Stink wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Guida gets slowly back to his feet.
Guida shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stink as he avoids it easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stink throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Totally Stink has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Clay Guida is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
