Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trainer Trainor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Trainer Trainor is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Trainer Trainor!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shields closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Shields throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Trainor dodges the ground and pound from Shields.
Trainor tries to escape but Shields is in control.
Trainor wants to control but Shields postures up.
Shields is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Trainor's shoulder. That is not cool.
Trainor struggling a bit here.
Trainor holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Trainor tries to bench press Shields off him but Shields keeps the position.
Trainor is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Shields is looking to take a break and control but Trainor is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Shields is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Trainor knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Trainor is trying to control Shields's posture but Shields avoids it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Shields thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Trainor regains half guard.
Shields is looking to stall here but Trainor recovers full guard.
Shields is looking to work some ground and pound but Trainor has wrist control.
Shields trying to control but Trainor is working from the bottom.
Shields looking to sit in guard and control but Trainor gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Shields is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Trainor is aware though and is defending well.

Shields lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Trainor!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Shields prevents Trainor from getting the reversal.
Shields tries to control but Trainor wriggling away.
Trainor wants to control but Shields is having none of it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Shields is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Trainor has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Trainor!

Shields is looking to sweep but instead, Trainor has passed into half guard.

Shields tries to roll over but Trainor keeps him under control.
Trainor is stalling here. Shields is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Trainor seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Shields has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trainor stops Shields from passing to mount.
Shields wants to lay and pray for a moment but Trainor keeps working.
Trainor is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Trainor manages to get to full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shields accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Trainor looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shields is one step ahead there.

Shields postures up.
Trainor wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Shields trying to control but Trainor is working from the bottom.
Trainor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Trainor manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shields manages to get himself to full guard.
Trainor wants to control from the top but Shields keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Trainor won't allow Shields to sweep him here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jake Shields will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Shields doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Trainor counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Shields looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Trainor passes into side control.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Trainor is working Shields over with some ground and pound from side control.
Shields is trying to control Trainor's posture but Trainor avoids it.

Trainor controls the position.
Trainor lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Shields down.

Shields manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Shields tries to roll over but Trainor keeps him under control.
Trainor is controlling the pace.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Shields gets back to full guard.

Trainor is fighting to break Shields's control of his arms but Shields is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Shields's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Trainor pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shields is keeping the position for now.
Trainor wants to control from the top but Shields keeps moving.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Trainor is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Shields tries to kick Trainor off but Trainor keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Shields wants to get back to full guard.
Trainer Trainor has got the better of the ground game so far.

Trainor wants to control but Shields is keeping him busy.
Trainor tries to pass the half guard into mount. Shields knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Trainor cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Trainor tries to control but Shields wriggling away.
Trainor takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Shields tries to improve his position but instead Trainor has taken his back!
A bit of a pause in the action here. Trainor controlling the positon.

Trainor has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Shields has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Trainor is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Shields knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Shields for a finish.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Trainor thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Trainor punishes Shields with strikes from the back mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Trainer Trainor showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Shields shoots and misses

and Trainor counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Shields controls Trainor momentarily but Trainor frees himself.
Shields will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Shields tries to improve position but can't.
Shields takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Trainor throws an elbow but Shields slips to the side and avoids it well.
Trainor looks up at the clock and then as Shields takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Trainor smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
You can see the frustration on Shields's face as Trainor controls the position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Shields taking punishment in the form of punches.
Trainor is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Shields will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Trainor in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Shields is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
