The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
It Is connects with a jab.
It Is finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
It Is connects with a crisp jab.
A punch combination from It Is misses.
Maximus takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
It Is connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Maximus momentarily.

Maximus fails with a takedown attempt.
A looping hook to the body misses from It Is. Maximus does a little dance to reset his feet.
It Is is looking to chop away at Maximus's legs.
Maximus takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Maximus takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Maximus avoids a punch combination nicely.

It Is keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
It Is throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
It Is throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Maximus's hands are dropping dangerously low here and It Is connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Maximus scrambles back to his feet.
It Is throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Maximus will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
What It Is has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Koni Maximus.
Maximus steps to the side to avoid the strikes from It Is.
Maximus tries for a takedown but It Is sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Sloppy strikes from It Is. Those never looked like landing.

It Is closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Maximus fails to pull guard.
It Is slowing the pace effectively.
It Is lands a right hand that snaps the head of Maximus backwards.
It Is doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Maximus jumps guard but It Is stands there with Maximus around his waist. Maximus gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Maximus blocks an uppercut.
Maximus keeps the fight in the clinch, despite It Is's efforts to push away.
A nice right hand lands inside from It Is.

It Is taking a break, stalling in the clinch.

It Is struggles to land a body shot inside as Maximus controls his hands.
It Is could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Maximus keeps control of It Is as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
It Is tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
It Is throws a punch but it's blocked by Maximus.

Maximus jumps guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
It Is would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Maximus working for a triangle but It Is defends it easily.
It Is is looking to stand up but Maximus won't let him.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maximus is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! It Is has his hands clasped together but Maximus extends an breaks It Is's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Maximus.

Koni Maximus decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
