PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack Lane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and IP Freely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Lane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, IP Freely!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Tarja Halkonen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lane throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Lane misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Lane closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Freely did well to prevent Lane getting side control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Lane wants to stand but Freely has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Lane tries to pass the half guard into mount. Freely knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Lane wants to take a breather but Freely is having none of it.
Freely blocking the ground and pound attempt from Lane.
Lane misses with a head shot. Freely uses the momentum to regain guard.
Freely trying to keep a closed guard but Lane is proving a slippery customer.
Lane wants to control from the top but Freely keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lane wants to stand but Freely has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Freely looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Lane will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Freely looking for a guillotine here but Lane defends easily.
Lane throws a strike but Freely rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Lane preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Freely tries to stand but Lane is controlling from the bottom.
Lane looking to hit a scissor sweep but Freely is one step ahead there.
Freely is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Freely trying to control the position from guard on top but Lane is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lane wants to sweep but no luck.
Freely throwing strikes but missing.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lane is on top in guard.

Lane wants to control from the top but Freely keeps moving.
Freely avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Lane drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Freely dives on top into guard.

Freely postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Freely is working Lane over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Freely has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Freely wants to control from the top but Lane keeps moving.

Lane kicks Freely off and gets to his feet.
Freely fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Freely lands a nice shot to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lane.
Lane is breathing heavily.

Lane gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Freely makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Freely connects with a couple of short punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but IP Freely will probably get the nod.
That's time! Lane's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Freely closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Lane quickly recovers to half guard.

Freely is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lane is just riding it out for now. Freely eventually gives up the hold.
Lane wants to control but Freely is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Lane flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Freely lands strikes from half guard.
Lane blocking the ground and pound attempt from Freely.
Freely is thwarting Lane's attempts to control the position.
Freely looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Lane wants to get back to full guard.
IP Freely has got the better of the ground game so far.
Freely not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Lane manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Lane moves into the clinch.
Freely is looking to take this one to the mat.
Lane wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Lane jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Freely walks away with a smile on his face. Lane gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Freely looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Freely leaves Lane with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Freely fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jack Lane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of IP Freely.

Lane clinches up with Freely and pushes him back against the cage.

Freely managing to block the knees to the body from Lane.
Freely tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lane smiles and moves away.
Lane rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Freely moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Freely changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lane looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Freely works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Lane regains half guard.
Freely lands with a punch from half guard.
Freely wants to control but Lane is keeping him busy.
Lane is trying to stand.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lane on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Lane is in trouble now - Freely has advanced to mount!
Lane is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Freely with shots to the head and body - Lane looks very uncomfortable down there.
Lane is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Freely looking to secure an arm triangle but Lane defends it well.
Lane takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Lane is rocked!
Lane is looking to improve his position but Freely isn't that keen on the idea.
Freely with a couple of short strikes.
Oh Lane is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lane is in a horrible position here. Freely smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
A big strike lands for Freely! That's really hurt Lane and he's turned his back - Freely keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Freely jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
