PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Erik Gladius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie has chosen Kottonmouth Kings presents: Richter - Lets Go as his entrance music. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Erik Gladius!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Carlos Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Ivan Kurochkin and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Gladius is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gladius swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gracie drops back looking for a leg! Gladius is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gladius manages to kick Gracie off! Gracie jumps back into Gladius's guard.
Gracie looking to sit in guard and control but Gladius gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Gracie has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Gladius has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Gladius postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Gladius loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie trying to keep a closed guard but Gladius is proving a slippery customer.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Carlos Gracie wasn't active enough on the ground.

Gladius drives through and clinches with Gracie against the cage.
Gracie is looking to take this one to the mat.
Gracie managing to block the knees to the body from Gladius.
Gracie goes for a takedown in the clinch but Gladius prevents it.

Gracie gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Gracie wants to take a breather but Gladius is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but Gladius defends the submission attempt.
Gracie trying to mount his opponent but Gladius defends it.
Gracie not doing much here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gladius is trying to stand.
Gracie slows the pace down in half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gracie's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Carlos Gracie has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Gracie tries to keep at a distance but Gladius has taken the fight into the clinch.
Gracie is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Gladius gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Erik Gladius has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Gracie.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gracie lands a takedown into guard.
Gracie wants to control from the top but Gladius keeps moving.
Gladius wants to stand and escape but Gracie is having none of it.
Gladius is breathing heavily.
Gracie passes into half guard.

Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gladius doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie.
Gracie uses his free foot to push down on Gladius's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Gladius.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Gracie working for a guillotine from mount but Gladius is in no mood to give up.
Gracie content just to control the position here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gladius is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Gracie controlling the position easily from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Gracie dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Gracie shoots for a takedown but Gladius saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Gracie ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Gracie shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gladius pinned against the cage. Gladius gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Gladius scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Gladius wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gracie, who protects the arm well.
Gladius tries to move to mount but Gracie blocks the move with his legs.
Gladius working away.
Gracie is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Gladius's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Gracie is pressing down on Gladius's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gracie looking for a triangle here. Gladius is fighting it but it looks tight! Gracie pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Gladius is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Carlos Gracie!
