PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Experiment Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yohan Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Velasquez's choice of entrance music: Promentory. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Guy drives through and clinches with Velasquez against the cage.
Velasquez blocks an uppercut.
Guy lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Guy misses with a hook from the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Velasquez's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Velasquez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Guy smiles and moves away.
Guy throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Guy has closed the distance and engaged Velasquez in a clinch.
Guy misses with a hook from the clinch.
Guy misses with a punch on the inside.

Guy swings wildly with an uppercut but Velasquez uses good head movement to avoid it.

Velasquez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Guy tries to avoid it but Velasquez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Guy to the ground. Guy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Guy fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Guy creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Guy manages to pull guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Guy is on top in guard.
Guy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Velasquez can't keep his opponent in guard - Guy advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Guy seems to be looking for submissions.
Guy with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Velasquez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Guy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Guy moves nicely into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Velasquez can do anything to dispel that myth.
Guy advances nicely into full mount.
Guy takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Velasquez is keeping busy.
Velasquez rolls, trying to escape but Guy keeps control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Guy creates some distance for himselfand unleashes a massive uppercut that sends Velasquez's eyes rolling into the back of his head! Velasquez drops to his knees and Guy pours it on with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!
