Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michael Hopp!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Emilie Lamont!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hopp fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hopp shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lamont pinned against the cage. Lamont gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hopp shoots in for a double leg but Lamont sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Hopp. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hopp closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lamont circles away.
Lamont will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A telegraphed right hand from Lamont misses the target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hopp shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hopp showed some decent athleticism there.
Hopp thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lamont's head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lamont has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hopp is working away from the top position though.
Lamont is looking for a sweep. Hopp is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lamont trying to hold on to Hopp's head to control him but Hopp postures up.
Hopp wants to free his trapped foot but Lamont is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Lamont throws a strike from the bottom but Hopp passes into side control!
Hopp has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lamont sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Lamont is looking to control Hopp's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lamont avoid being mounted?
Hopp works his foot free and advances to mount.
Hopp looking to control but Lamont is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lamont takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Lamont is in a horrible position here. Hopp smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Hopp wants to control the pace but Lamont is squirming around nicely.
Hopp dominating with strikes here.


Lamont is rocked!
Lamont is trying to escape the mount.
Lamont is still in real trouble! Can Hopp finish him?
Lamont in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Lamont is looking to get to half guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hopp has hold of Lamont's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Lamont manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lamont can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hopp postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Lamont in real trouble here! The ref calls for Lamont to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Michael Hopp!
Michael Hopp retains his welterweight title!
