Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jose Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Francesco Chiappinelli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz comes into the arena with Jamiroquai - Deeper Underground blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Francesco Chiappinelli!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Diaz avoids a punch combination nicely.
Chiappinelli pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Diaz tries to clinch up but Chiappinelli circles away and keeps his distance.
Diaz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Chiappinelli manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Chiappinelli swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Chiappinelli throws a right hand that Diaz ducks under and follows up with a left that Diaz also avoids with ease.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Diaz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Chiappinelli is trying to control the position but Diaz postures up.

Chiappinelli is looking for a triangle but Diaz pushes his legs off easily.
Diaz trying to control but Chiappinelli is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz wanted to stand there but Chiappinelli had control of the position.

Diaz advances to half guard.
Diaz is looking to take a break and control but Chiappinelli is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Chiappinelli is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Diaz decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Diaz moves in looking to clinch but Chiappinelli pushes him off.
Chiappinelli throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Diaz stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A head kick misses from Chiappinelli.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Chiappinelli as he avoids it easily.
Chiappinelli keeps the fight on the outside.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch but Chiappinelli swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Diaz tries to clinch there but Chiappinelli circles away.

Diaz closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Chiappinelli is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Diaz tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Diaz works his way into full mount!
Chiappinelli is desperately trying to improve his position but Diaz has a good base and remains in mount.

Diaz stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Diaz tries to clinch up.
Diaz tests Chiappinelli's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Diaz gets caught napping as Chiappinelli dives in and scores a takedown. Diaz manages to retain guard.
Diaz pulls Chiappinelli in close to prevent any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chiappinelli loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Chiappinelli slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Diaz managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Chiappinelli.
Diaz tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Chiappinelli easily slips into full mount!

Chiappinelli lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Diaz is trying desperately to improve position.

Diaz wants to hold on but Chiappinelli pushes him away.
Diaz is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Chiappinelli controlling the position easily from mount.
Chiappinelli throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Chiappinelli is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Diaz is surviving well by controlling Chiappinelli's body position as best he can.
Diaz wants to hold on but Chiappinelli pushes him away.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Chiappinelli has hold of Diaz's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Diaz manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Diaz is trying desperately to improve position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jose Diaz will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!



Diaz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Diaz wants to control but Chiappinelli is keeping him busy.

Diaz has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Diaz scores with a jab to the jaw.
Diaz's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Chiappinelli connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Diaz scrambles back to his feet.

Diaz clinches up against the cage.
Chiappinelli has Diaz pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Diaz manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Chiappinelli lands a shoulder strike.
Chiappinelli wants a takedown.
Chiappinelli tries for a takedown but Diaz manages to get underhooks.
Jose Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Francesco Chiappinelli.

Chiappinelli drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Diaz gets the underhooks and prevents it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Diaz lands a body punch.

Diaz creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Chiappinelli's defenses.

A frustrated look appears on Chiappinelli's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Diaz using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Chiappinelli has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Diaz presses Chiappinelli against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Diaz comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Diaz unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Chiappinelli! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but Diaz is unloading with more strikes now! Chiappinelli drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jose Diaz!
An out of breath and clearly excited Jose Diaz thanked 5th Round Clothing for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him).
