The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sydal misses with a takedown attempt

so Lombard counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lombard passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Lombard has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Sydal!
Lombard thowing shots but they're missing.

Lombard has hold of Sydal's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Sydal manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Lombard thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Sydal wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Lombard.
Lombard sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Sydal's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Lombard breaks from Sydal's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Lombard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Sydal tries to buck Lombard off so he can stand up but Lombard has got his back now - this could be big trouble! He's slapped on a rear naked choke that looks really tight! Sydal falls backwards, slamming Lombard to the mat but Lombard holds on tight! Sydal is forced to tap and this one is all over!
