PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Teddy Garcilazo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunter has chosen Black Nurse by Glassjaw as his entrance music. Jake Hunter told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Teddy Garcilazo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Daniel Cesar and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Garcilazo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Hunter keeping moving, preventing Garcilazo from controlling successfully.
Garcilazo throwing strikes but missing.
Garcilazo throws a strike but Hunter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Garcilazo wants to stand and escape but Hunter is having none of it.

Garcilazo is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Hunter dives into side control.
Hunter is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Garcilazo will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Garcilazo is pushing Hunter's head away, looking to escape. Hunter manages to hold on to the position though.
Hunter is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hunter lands a nice looking kick to the body. Garcilazo takes a step back to recover.
Hunter lands with a right hand.
Hunter lands a front kick.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Hunter. Garcilazo shrugs it off though.

Garcilazo dives in and scores a takedown into Hunter's guard.

Garcilazo missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Garcilazo trying to control the position from guard on top but Hunter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Garcilazo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Garcilazo wants to control from the top but Hunter keeps moving.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Garcilazo closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hunter's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Garcilazo trying to control but Hunter is working from the bottom.
Garcilazo is looking to work some ground and pound but Hunter has wrist control.
Garcilazo looking to sit in guard and control but Hunter gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Garcilazo wants to stand up but Hunter is controlling him.
Garcilazo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Garcilazo tries to get out of the position.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Teddy Garcilazo.

Garcilazo throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hunter tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Garcilazo is in Hunter's guard.

Garcilazo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hunter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Garcilazo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Garcilazo trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Garcilazo looking to sit in guard and control but Hunter gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Garcilazo wants to stand up but Hunter is controlling him.

Garcilazo trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

We're going to have a standup here because Teddy Garcilazo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Garcilazo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hunter to the mat! Hunter manages to get full guard.

Garcilazo postures up in Hunter's guard and throws a big left but Hunter blocks it.
Garcilazo wants to control from the top but Hunter keeps moving.
Garcilazo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hunter is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Garcilazo tries to kick Hunter off in order to stand up. Hunter Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Hunter gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Garcilazo to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Hunter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Garcilazo is one step ahead there.
Teddy Garcilazo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Garcilazo engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Hunter lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Garcilazo!

Garcilazo really wants to buck Hunter off and get back to his feet.
Jake Hunter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Garcilazo shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Garcilazo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
