Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack Lane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wanderlei Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wanderlei Emelianenko is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Lane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wanderlei Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Matti Vanhoillinen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lane fails with the takedown.
Lane misses with the combination.

Emelianenko gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Emelianenko is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Emelianenko throws a knee to the head but misses.
Lane scores a nice knee to the body.
Lane throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Lane's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Emelianenko tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lane swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lane darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Emelianenko throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Emelianenko closes the distance and pushes Lane back into the cage.
Emelianenko wants to stall.
Emelianenko working hard to break the clinch.
Lane misses with a knee strike.
With the fighters up against the cage, Lane throws an elbow but misses.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lane ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Lane no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Emelianenko is looking to work some ground and pound but Lane has wrist control.
Emelianenko postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Lane pulls Emelianenko in close to prevent any damage.
Emelianenko in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Emelianenko would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Lane pushes Emelianenko off and scrambles back to his feet.
Lane shoots in looking for a takedown. Emelianenko tries to sprawl out of it but Lane keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Emelianenko manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Emelianenko closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Lane quickly recovers to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lane flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lane is trying to stand back up but Emelianenko is controlling him
Emelianenko has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Emelianenko not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Lane is trying to control but can't.
Lane is breathing heavily.
Emelianenko wants to take a breather but Lane is having none of it.
Emelianenko takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Lane has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Emelianenko is working away from the top position though.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Lane is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Emelianenko has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Emelianenko moves in looking to clinch but Lane pushes him off.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Emelianenko looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lane is fending him off so far but Emelianenko persists. Nope, Lane circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Emelianenko tries to clinch but Lane is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Emelianenko buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Emelianenko throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Lane.
Lane swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Emelianenko counters with a three punch combo that has Lane backing up. Lane nods at Emelianenko to acknowledge the strikes.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Lane throws a looping overhand right but Emelianenko ducks down to avoid it.
Lane shoots in for a double leg but Emelianenko sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Emelianenko moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Lane shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Emelianenko scores with a one two! Lane had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Lane crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Emelianenko - the referee stops the clock and Lane gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Emelianenko. Lane manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Lane shoots in looking for a takedown but Emelianenko manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lane's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Wanderlei Emelianenko showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
