PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rafael Pierce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Van Chooke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooke has chosen Demigodz - Empire Strikes Back as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rafael Pierce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Van Chooke!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pierce closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Chooke wants to get back to his feet.

Pierce is working for a kimura but Chooke is defending it quite comfortably.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pierce is trying to control the action in half guard but Chooke is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Chooke blocking the ground and pound attempt from Pierce.
Pierce is nestled in close to Chooke, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Chooke tries to kick Pierce off but Pierce keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Pierce is looking to advance position but Chooke won't allow it.
Chooke pushes Pierce off looking to stand but Pierce dives back in and keeps control.

Pierce is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Pierce wants to work for an arm triangle but Chooke is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Chooke is trying to stand back up but Pierce is controlling him

That's one minute gone in the round.

Chooke manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Chooke scores with a nice head shot.
Pierce walks into a straight right hand from Chooke.

Pierce darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Chooke tries to kick Pierce off but Pierce keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Chooke is in trouble now - Pierce has advanced to mount!
Chooke is trying to stand.

Pierce looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Pierce moves to take his opponent's back.

Pierce working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Chooke is trying to get back to his feet but Pierce has full control of the position and if anything, Chooke has just worked his way into a worse spot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pierce has Chooke flattened out and is raining down punches.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chooke defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Pierce's arms.

Pierce has his arm under Chooke's chin here. Game over son! Pierce squeezes tightly and Chooke is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Rafael Pierce!
Rafael Pierce bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
