PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Victor Le (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Vegata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Le's entrance music is Ave Maria. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Vegata!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vegata misses the shot to the body.
Le lands a nice shot to the body.
Vegata shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Le misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Vegata.
Le staying out of range there.
Vegata just misses with a punch to the body.
Le punishes Vegata's body with a nice straight punch.
Le fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Vegata manages to avoid it.
Le scores with a push kick.
Vegata misses with a double jab.
Vegata fails with the takedown
and Le counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Le jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Le does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Le thows a body shot but no joy.

Vegata rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Le counters with a nice low kick that buckles Vegata's knee momentarily.
Le keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Victor Le has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Vegata.

Vegata looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Le!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vegata throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Le is desperately trying to improve his position but Vegata has a good base and remains in mount.
Vegata unloads with some shots from mount but Le bucks and avoids them well.

Vegata is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Le has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Le!

Le really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Vegata wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Le slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Le is pushing down on Vegata's leg trying to pass to half guard. Vegata is fighting to maintain full guard but Le has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Le takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Vegata is trying to maintain the position but Le is very close to passing his half guard.
Le is controlling the pace.
Vegata is pressing down on Le's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Le will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Vegata looking to control.
Le wants to control from the top but Vegata keeps moving.

Victor Le has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Antonio Vegata seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Vegata misses with a shot to the body
and Le counters with a good low kick that Vegata was not able to check.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Vegata!
Le pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Vegata back to the cage. Le follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Le lands a jab.

and Vegata counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Le is trying to get back to full guard.
Le is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Vegata's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Vegata's back!
Vegata breaks Le's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Le tries to land a sweep but no joy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vegata accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Le wants to sweep but no luck.
Vegata throws an elbow that misses. Le uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Vegata's guard. Nice move by Le!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Victor Le will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Vegata cracks Le with a right hand to the side of the head.
A big left from Vegata misses.
Vegata misses with a hook.
An inside leg kick from Le misses.
A punch lands to the side of Vegata 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Le throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Vegata.
Le on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Le moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Le pivots, looking for a leg kick but Vegata is out of range and Le settles back down.
Vegata uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Le.

Victor Le is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Le displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Vegata throws out the jab.
Victor Le is winning the standup battle so far.
Vegata dips to his left and cracks Le with an uppercut!
Vegata rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Le counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Vegata is rocked!
Vegata walks into a picture perfect straight right hand from Le! He's gone down face first to the canvas, unconscious before he even hit the floor! Ohhhh. My. Goodness! That boys and girls was a beautiful knockout! Give that man a biscuit!
