Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mark Woleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sho Shinjo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shinjo has chosen Theme of Sho as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Woleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sho Shinjo!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big right from Woleman misses.
Woleman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Shinjo throws a body kick that misses.
Shinjo waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Woleman.
Shinjo throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Shinjo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Woleman is trying to defend but Shinjo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Shinjo is trying to control. Woleman wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Woleman is looking to control Shinjo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Woleman avoid being mounted?

Shinjo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Woleman is just riding it out for now. Shinjo eventually gives up the hold.
Shinjo wants to take a breather but Woleman is having none of it.

Shinjo is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Woleman is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Woleman has escaped and now he's on top!

Shinjo wants to pass the guard but Woleman is keeping the position.
Shinjo is fighting to break Woleman's control of his arms but Woleman is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Woleman wants to get back to his feet but Shinjo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Shinjo trying to control but Woleman is having none of it.
Woleman is wriggling around trying to escape.
Woleman is working hard here to advance position.
Woleman throwing hammer fists to the chest of Shinjo. What's that going to do exactly?
Woleman is looking to improve his position but Shinjo isn't that keen on the idea.
Woleman tries to lock up and control but Shinjo gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Shinjo prevents Woleman from getting the reversal.

Shinjo lands with some strikes.
Woleman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Shinjo lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Woleman tries to hold on but Shinjo pushes him away.
Woleman sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Woleman wants to get back to full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Woleman is trying to maintain the position but Shinjo is very close to passing his half guard.

Shinjo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sho Shinjo dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Woleman looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Woleman looks for a takedown but Shinjo sprawls well.
Woleman fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Shinjo throws the left hand but Woleman avoids the punch easily.
Shinjo takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Woleman cracks Shinjo with a right hand to the side of the head.
Woleman shoots in looking for a takedown. Shinjo tries to sprawl out of it but Woleman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shinjo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Shinjo tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

A looping hook to the body misses from Woleman. Shinjo does a little dance to reset his feet.

Woleman moves out of range of the body kick.
Woleman shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Shinjo as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Woleman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Woleman connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Shinjo closes the distance and clinches up with Woleman, looking for a takedown. Shinjo pushes Woleman against the cage but Woleman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Woleman has his takedown stuffed
and Woleman takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Woleman takes a kick to the side of the head.
Shinjo staying out of range there.
Shinjo slaps away a takedown attempt from Woleman, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Woleman misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Shinjo.
Woleman goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Jab, jab by Woleman - just one landing.
Woleman throws an overhand right that lands on Shinjo's shoulder, as Shinjo tries to avoid the shot.
Shinjo lands with an uppercut that bounces Woleman off the cage and back into range.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Shinjo takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Shinjo throws a head kick but Woleman moves out of range.
Shinjo pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Shinjo scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Shinjo blocks a jab.
Woleman throws a lazy uppercut
and Shinjo counters with a body kick.
Woleman fails to land the takedown.
Woleman keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Shinjo scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Woleman doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Shinjo shoots for a takedown but Woleman saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Woleman looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Shinjo throws a series of punches but Woleman avoids them all with ease.
Woleman swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Shinjo manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Woleman on his heels. He'll look to pass Woleman's guard now, I'm sure.

Shinjo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Woleman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Woleman is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Woleman looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shinjo is one step ahead there.
Shinjo tries to free his leg and advance position but Woleman is retaining full guard.

Woleman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Sho Shinjo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Sho Shinjo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Shinjo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
