Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lionel Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Lachance (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lionel Smith has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lionel Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Lachance!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lachance fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Smith fails with the takedown.
Smith shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lachance but Lachance pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Smith.
Lachance manages to get back to half guard.
Lachance blocking the ground and pound attempt from Smith.
Lachance wants to control but Smith is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Lachance keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Smith throwing shots but Lachance is blocking nicely.
Lachance gets full guard.

Lachance is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Smith prevents the takedown attempt.
Smith can't get the takedown.

Lachance has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Smith is trying to keep an underhook but Lachance manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Lachance is nestled in close to Smith, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Smith tries to reverse the position but Lachance maintains control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith is squirming around, avoiding Lachance's attempts to control the action.

Smith is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Lachance controlling his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by John Lachance.
Lachance keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Lachance closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Smith is defended easily by Lachance.
Lachance shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smith as he avoids it easily.

Lachance shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Smith's guard.

Smith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lachance can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Lachance wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.

Lachance is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Lachance is trying to control. Smith wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Smith has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lachance is working away from the top position though.
Lachance throwing shots but Smith is blocking nicely.
Smith slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Smith throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Smith keeping moving, preventing Lachance from controlling successfully.
Lachance pushes down on Smith's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Lachance perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Smith flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Smith is trying to control but can't.
Lachance seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Lachance blocks the strikes from Smith.
Lachance performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Smith is trying to control but can't.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Smith shoots in but Lachance avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lionel Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lachance misses with a takedown attempt - Smith sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Lachance closes this distance looking for a takedown but Smith circles away.
Smith fails with the takedown.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lachance.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lachance dives in and grabs Smith's left leg, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes down on Lachance's head and hops out.
Lachance tries to score a power double leg takedown but Smith sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lachance somewhat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Lachance dives in and scores a takedown into Smith's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Lachance showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

and Lachance counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Smith!

Lachance is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Smith to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Smith shrugs it off.
Lachance lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Smith is wriggling around trying to escape.
Smith throws some wild strikes from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Smith wants to hold on but Lachance pushes him away.
The referee warns Smith that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Lachance content just to control the position here.
Lachance trying to control but Smith is having none of it.
John Lachance has got the better of the ground game so far.

Lachance lands with some strikes.

Lachance lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Lachance fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Smith is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Smith keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Smith wants to control but Lachance is having none of it.
Lachance pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Lionel Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lachance is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Smith can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smith is squirming around, avoiding Lachance's attempts to control the action.

John Lachance comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lachance has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
