PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Marx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Teddy Roosevelt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Teddy Roosevelt told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 13 - 3, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Marx!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Teddy Roosevelt!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marx shoots in and bounces Roosevelt off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Roosevelt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Marx missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Roosevelt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Marx. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Marx postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Marx throwing strikes from guard but Roosevelt blocks nicely.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Marx accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Roosevelt is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Marx throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Roosevelt works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Marx in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Marx chips away with some ground and pound.
Roosevelt is looking to stand up but Marx isn't so interested in that idea.
Marx postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Marx is looking to work some ground and pound but Roosevelt has wrist control.

Marx is working Roosevelt over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Marx might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Roosevelt avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Marx.
Marx drops an elbow to the side of Roosevelt's head.
Marx wants to take a breather but Roosevelt is having none of it.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Marx connects with a nice short shot to Roosevelt's temple.
Marx tries to pass to full mount but Roosevelt defends it.
Marx with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Marx is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Marx working the ground and pound effectively.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

It looks like Teddy Roosevelt has been cut.

Marx lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Roosevelt hang on?


That has opened up Teddy Roosevelt's cut even more.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Roosevelt scores with a sloppy right hand. Marx should have avoided that one.
A chopping leg kick lands by Marx.
Both fighters circling a little - Marx finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Marx drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Roosevelt wants to get back to his feet but Marx is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Marx drops back, looking for a kneebar! Roosevelt looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Roosevelt looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Roosevelt!
Marx is looking to regain half guard here but Roosevelt keeps moving and retains side control.
Marx wants to control but Roosevelt postures up.
Marx has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marx tries to bench press Roosevelt off him but Roosevelt keeps the position.
Marx wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Roosevelt working away.

Roosevelt has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Roosevelt thows a left - swing and a miss!
Marx moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Roosevelt gets tackled into the cage by Marx. Marx maintains the clinch.

Marx pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Roosevelt connects with a crisp jab.
Roosevelt throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Good shot there by Marx.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Marx closes the distance and clinches up with Roosevelt, looking for a takedown. Marx pushes Roosevelt against the cage but Roosevelt circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Marx avoids the body shot from Roosevelt.
Roosevelt throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Marx counters with an inside leg kick.
A lazy left from Roosevelt finds it's target.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Marx keeps Roosevelt at a distance using the push kick.
Marx pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Marx is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Roosevelt can do to turn this around?
Marx shoots in for a takedown but Roosevelt shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Marx looks to score with a jab to the body but Roosevelt is just out of range.
A jab from Roosevelt does it's job there.
Roosevelt throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Marx scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Roosevelt throws a good cross that connects.
Roosevelt misses with an uppercut. Marx saw that one coming.
Roosevelt looks to score with a jab to the body but Marx is just out of range.
Good leg kick by Marx there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

A big right from Marx misses.
Marx lunges at Roosevelt with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Roosevelt's hand.


The cut above Teddy Roosevelt's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Marx throws a head kick that Roosevelt semi-blocks.
Marx lands with a kick to the temple. Roosevelt shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


Teddy Roosevelt's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
A solid leg kick lands there for Marx.
Marx takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Marx throws a sloppy head kick and Roosevelt moves out of range easily.
Marx scores with a hook.
Marx slips a jab and a cross from Roosevelt.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Roosevelt has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Roosevelt there as he acknowledges the shot.
Marx feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Roosevelt's calf.
Marx lands a head kick!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Marx dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Teddy Roosevelt's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Marx drops his hands momentarily and Roosevelt takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Roosevelt looks to land a right hand but Marx moved out of range.
Roosevelt on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Marx connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Marx shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Roosevelt misses with a few strikes there.
Marx buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Marx throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Marx throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Roosevelt looks to land a right hand but Marx moved out of range.
Roosevelt getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Marx lands a nice leg kick that just misses Roosevelt's sensitive parts.

Roosevelt pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Marx moves out of range as Roosevelt strikes.
Roosevelt misses with the combination.
Marx shoots in for a takedown but Roosevelt shows good takedown defense.
Marx throws a head kick that Roosevelt semi-blocks.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Teddy Roosevelt's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Mark Marx!
