Gillespie comes to the cage accompanied by Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows Scream If You're Crazy. Ruiz has chosen jukebox hero as his entrance music. Justin Ruiz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Arron Gillespie!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Justin Ruiz!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ruiz closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gillespie quickly recovers to half guard.
Ruiz stops Gillespie from getting back to his feet.
Ruiz trying to control the action but Gillespie is working from the bottom.

Well, if Ruiz is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gillespie enables Ruiz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gillespie manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Gillespie will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
It looks like Ruiz might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Justin Ruiz wasn't active enough on the ground.

Ruiz is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ruiz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gillespie swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gillespie throws a lazy uppercut

and Ruiz counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Ruiz wants to control from the top but Gillespie keeps moving.

Ruiz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ruiz stands up over Gillespie, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ruiz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gillespie sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The strikes coming from Ruiz are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ruiz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ruiz misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

and Ruiz counters with a shoot takedown. Gillespie fights it but they end up in guard.

Ruiz connects with a couple of short punches.
Oh Gillespie is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ruiz postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Gillespie covers up, he's hurt! Ruiz keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Ruiz and the ref steps in to end the fight! Ruiz can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 4, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Justin Ruiz! Justin Ruiz retains his light heavyweight title!
As Justin Ruiz got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: I wanna thank no one but myself.'.
