PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Victor Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edwin Meadows (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peterson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Diamond. Meadows comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Punky's Whips kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 15 - 0, fighting out of New York, Victor Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 16 - 1, fighting out of New York, Edwin Meadows!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Joseph Jones and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Meadows clinches up against the cage.
Meadows lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Meadows makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Peterson is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Peterson lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Meadows or not.
Meadows tries to break free but Peterson pushes him back against the cage.
Meadows lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Meadows has had enough of the clinch but Peterson keeps him there for the moment.

Meadows escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Meadows throws a nice looking combination but Peterson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Meadows tries to close the distance and clinch up but Peterson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Meadows tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Peterson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Meadows moves to clinch but Peterson breaks away
and Meadows takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.


It looks like Edwin Meadows has been cut.
Meadows looks for a takedown but Peterson sprawls well.
Meadows displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Peterson throws out the jab.

Meadows takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Meadows closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Peterson works his way to full guard. Good work.
Meadows trying to control but Peterson is working from the bottom.

Meadows throws a big right hand that misses.
Meadows won't allow Peterson to sweep him here.

Meadows wants to pass the guard but Peterson is keeping the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Peterson is controlling Meadows's posture.
Meadows stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Peterson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Meadows postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Peterson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Meadows looking to sit in guard and control but Peterson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Meadows keeping moving, preventing Peterson from controlling successfully.
Peterson tries to free his leg and advance position but Meadows is retaining full guard.

Meadows tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Peterson drops back looking for a leg! Meadows is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Meadows manages to kick Peterson off! Peterson jumps back into Meadows's guard.
Peterson wants to control from the top but Meadows keeps moving.
Peterson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Peterson looking to sit in guard and control but Meadows gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Meadows throws a strike but Peterson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Peterson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Peterson pushes down on Meadows's leg and manages to get into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Meadows is defending against the submission attempts here by Peterson.
Peterson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Meadows does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Victor Peterson will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Peterson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Meadows.
Meadows tries to clinch there but Peterson circles away.

Peterson gets a double leg takedown into Meadows's guard.

Peterson is working for a submission of some sort.
Peterson wants to take a breather but Meadows is having none of it.

Peterson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Meadows has managed to free his arm - good work.
Peterson is pressing down on Meadows's thigh, looking to free his foot. Meadows is holding on for now.

Peterson seems to be working for a kimura but Meadows defends the submission attempt.
Peterson is looking to stall here but Meadows recovers full guard.
Meadows looking to hit a scissor sweep but Peterson is one step ahead there.
Peterson advances to half guard.
Meadows tries to get to full guard but Peterson has control of the leg.

Peterson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Meadows doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Peterson.

Peterson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Peterson passes to side control.

Peterson goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Meadows has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Peterson but great work by Meadows.

Meadows is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Peterson still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Peterson has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Peterson trying to control the action but Meadows is working from the bottom.

Peterson has hold of Meadows's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Meadows tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Peterson cranks the arm and Meadows screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Meadows, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Victor Peterson!
