PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Leon Hansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Hoist the Colours kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Leon Hansen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Leon Hansen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Jones!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hansen has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Jones finds it's way round the side to connect with Hansen's head.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jones. Hansen does a little dance to reset his feet.
Hansen keeps the fight on the outside.
Jones lands with an uppercut that bounces Hansen off the cage and back into range.
Jones throws a poor cross that misses
and Hansen counters with a one-two to the body.
Hansen is looking to clinch.
Hansen tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Hansen misses with a wild combination.
Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Hansen.
Hansen tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.
Hansen tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Jones manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hansen tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones misses with a lunging right hand
and Hansen counters with an inside leg kick.
Hansen takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Jones buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Hansen shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jones manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Hansen wants to stand and escape but instead Jones has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Jones content to stall in guard here.
Jones missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hansen is looking to stand up but Jones isn't so interested in that idea.
Jones throws a strike but Hansen rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Hansen wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.

Hansen decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Hansen closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Jones scores with a leg kick.
Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hansen throws a right and a left that Jones avoids nicely.
Hansen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jones moves away from the strike by Hansen.
Hansen tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Hansen takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Jones scores with a jab to the head.

Hansen shoots in and bounces Jones off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hansen loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Jones wants to sweep here but Hansen controlling him for the moment.

Jones looking to control.
Jones pulls Hansen in close to his closed guard and prevents Hansen from doing any damage or advancing position.

Jones is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hansen defends well.
Hansen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Jones wants to control the position but Hansen says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Jones is trying to maintain the position but Hansen is very close to passing his half guard.
Jones moves into full guard.
Jones striking off his back but it's not causing Hansen any problems.
Jones controls Hansen momentarily but Hansen frees himself.

Jones is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hansen defends well.

Hansen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jones has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hansen has managed to get both his arms back between Jones's legs - danger averted.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hansen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hansen stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Leon Hansen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hansen wants to clinch up but Jones keeps it at a distance.
An inside leg kick from Hansen misses.
No joy there for Hansen, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hansen tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Jones manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
David Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hansen tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.
Hansen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Leon Hansen will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hansen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Jones has managed to clinch.
Hansen tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hansen avoids the elbow strike from Jones, against the cage.
Jones fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Hansen takes an elbow to the forehead.
Jones pushes off an throws an elbow but Hansen leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Jones lands an elbow inside that Hansen shrugs off.
Jones misses with a hook to the ribs.
Jones scores with a shot to the side of Hansen's head.
Hansen changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Jones fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Jones swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Hansen.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hansen has his takedown stuffed
and Jones counters with a three punch combo that has Hansen backing up. Hansen nods at Jones to acknowledge the strikes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leon Hansen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hansen takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Jones connects with an inside leg kick.
Jones looks to score with a jab to the body but Hansen is just out of range.
Hansen tries to clinch up.
A combination from Hansen does no damage.
Hansen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Hansen misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hansen misses with a double jab.
Hansen shoots in for a double leg but Jones sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hansen throws a left and a right that both miss
and Jones counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Jones moves into range and clinches up with Hansen.
Jones lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Hansen.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones lands a hook to the side of the head.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Jones in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Hansen takes an elbow to the forehead.
Jones pushes off an throws an elbow but Hansen leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Hansen tries to pull guard but Jones forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Jones lands an elbow that stopped Hansen in his tracks for a moment.
Jones lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Hansen.

Jones tries to work over Hansen's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Hansen manages to pull guard.
Hansen trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.

Hansen keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones stopping the sweep attempt from Hansen.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hansen wants to stand and escape but Jones is having none of it.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Hansen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. David Jones wasn't active enough on the ground.
Hansen fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Leon Hansen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hansen takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Jones with a jab.
Jones connects with a solid leg kick.
Jones ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hansen moves away.
Hansen takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Jones throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hansen takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones thows a body shot but no joy.
Jones ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Jones cracks a nice hook into Hansen's ribs.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hansen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

David Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Hansen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jones pinned against the cage. Jones gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Jones prevents the takedown attempt.
Jones misses with the head strike.
Hansen has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leon Hansen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones lands an elbow just above Hansen 's eye.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hansen successfully pulls guard.
Jones scoring with some ground and pound.
Jones postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Jones prevents Hansen from getting back to his feet.
Jones working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hansen's head.
Hansen looking to control but Jones passes into half guard.
Jones lands strikes from half guard.
Hansen tries to kick Jones off but Jones keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Jones seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Jones thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hansen's head.
Jones wants to pass the guard but Hansen is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hansen is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Jones scores with a couple of nice shots.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jones thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jones throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Jones seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hansen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Jones takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Jones is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Hansen!
Jones misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Hansen wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Jones.
Jones can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hansen is looking to escape.
Hansen takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Jones pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

David Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
