Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Escudero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Johnson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Escudero!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Escudero shoots in but no luck this time.
Escudero swats away the attempt to clinch by Johnson.
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch but Escudero swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Escudero avoids a kick to the body.
Escudero closes this distance looking for a takedown but Johnson circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A clash of legs there as Johnson blocks the low kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Escudero moves into the clinch.
Escudero is trying to break free.
Escudero takes an elbow to the temple.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Johnson.
Escudero drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
John Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Escudero.
Johnson throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Johnson keeps control of Escudero as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Johnson jumps guard but Escudero stands there with Johnson around his waist. Johnson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Johnson tries to land knees in the clinch but Escudero avoids the damage to the body.
Johnson misses with an elbow over the top.
Johnson lands an elbow inside.
Escudero blocks an elbow strike.
Escudero is trying to break the clinch but Johnson has him pressed against the cage.
Escudero drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Johnson gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Escudero misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Johnson.
Johnson lands an elbow inside.

Escudero blocks an elbow strike.
Johnson prevents Escudero from breaking the clinch.

Escudero escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Escudero.
Johnson wants to clinch
and Escudero counters with a series of strikes. Johnson will be more careful next time no doubt.
Johnson wants to clinch but Escudero slips to the side

and Escudero counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Johnson scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Johnson wants to clinch
and Escudero counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Escudero misses with a takedown attempt - Johnson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Escudero counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Escudero.

Escudero is looking to stand up but Johnson won't let him.
Escudero looks gassed!

Johnson manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Johnson rushes Escudero and presses him up against the cage.
Escudero drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Escudero blocks the elbow strike.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Escudero avoids the elbow strike from Johnson, against the cage.
Escudero wants to break free but Johnson has control.
Johnson lands an elbow inside.
Johnson tries a knee to the head but Escudero blocks it.
Escudero wants to break the clinch but can't.
Johnson blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Escudero goes for a takedown in the clinch but Johnson prevents it.
Johnson misses with an elbow strike.
Johnson lands an elbow inside that Escudero shrugs off.
Johnson lands an elbow that stopped Escudero in his tracks for a moment.
Johnson throws a knee to the head but misses.
Johnson taking a breather.
Johnson unloads a knee to the mid-section. Escudero lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Escudero blocks an elbow strike from Johnson.
Escudero has Johnson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Johnson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Escudero manages to pull guard.
Escudero looking to hit a scissor sweep but Johnson is one step ahead there.

Johnson gets to his feet - Escudero follows without any prompting.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mark Escudero will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Escudero feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Johnson's calf.
Escudero looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Escudero misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Escudero misses with a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson tries to clinch up
and Escudero counters with a slapping leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A head kick by Johnson - that's a beauty! Escudero is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Johnson can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). John Johnson!
