The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Tavares.

Tavares shoots in and gets a takedown into Ivanova's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Ivanova is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Tavares throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Tavares working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Ivanova's head.
Ivanova really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tavares. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ivanova is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Tavares fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ivanova to the ground. Tavares is now in Ivanova's guard.

Ivanova turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Ivanova manages to end up in side control.
