Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between PJ Sparxx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Pontes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fernando Pontes is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sparxx misses with a body shot
and Pontes counters with a stiff right hand.
Pontes slips under a jab from Sparxx.

Pontes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Sparxx is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Pontes lands a couple of decent looking shots.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sparxx is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pontes is controlling him.
Pontes is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Let's hope that Pontes has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Pontes dodges the punch combination from Sparxx.
Sparxx lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Sparxx connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Pontes momentarily.

Sparxx fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Sparxx throws a body punch but Pontes moves out of range.
Sparxx lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pontes circles away quickly and effectively.
Pontes fails to land with a series of punches.

Sparxx tries for a takedown but Pontes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Some bone on bone action there as Pontes checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

and Pontes counters with a three punch combo that has Sparxx backing up. Sparxx nods at Pontes to acknowledge the strikes.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pontes looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Pontes drops an elbow to the side of Sparxx's head.

Pontes is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Sparxx tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Pontes manages to move to mount!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Pontes won't let Sparxx get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pontes lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Sparxx lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pontes circles away quickly and effectively.

and Pontes counters with a one-two to the body.
Pontes leaves Sparxx with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Sparxx fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sparxx takes a swing at Pontes's ribcage but misses.

Pontes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sparxx sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sparxx enables Pontes to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sparxx manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Pontes has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Pontes has hold of Sparxx's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Sparxx seems comfortable defending it but Pontes has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Sparxx is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Sparxx is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Pontes couldn't care less - he's delighted!
