PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ippo Makounchi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Winson Kin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Makounchi's entrance music is rolling go. A fine choice. The key to victory for Ippo Makounchi has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Ippo Makounchi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Winson Kin!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makounchi misses with a looping right.

Kin fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Makounchi to the ground. Kin is now in Makounchi's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Makounchi wants to stand but Kin is controlling the position.
Kin slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Kin working the ground and pound.

Kin has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Kin shoots in and bounces Makounchi off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Makounchi is breathing heavily.
Kin showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kin prevents Makounchi from getting back to his feet.

Kin content to stall in guard here.
Makounchi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kin slips nicely into half guard.
Still in half guard, Kin seems content to control.

Kin is working for a kimura but Makounchi is defending it quite comfortably.
Kin is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Well, if Kin is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Kin decides to stand and escape the position.
Makounchi thuds his right hand into Kin's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Ippo Makounchi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Well, if Kin is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Kin seems to be working for a kimura but Makounchi defends the submission attempt.

Kin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Makounchi doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kin.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kin postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Makounchi to stand up.
Makounchi really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Kin tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Kin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
A lull in the action here.

Kin decides to stand back up. Kin steps back and let's Makounchi get back to his feet.

Kin shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Makounchi's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Makounchi is looking to stand up but Kin isn't so interested in that idea.
Kin works over Makounchi with some ground and pound from guard.
Kin engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Kin stands and steps away. Makounchi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kin showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kin content to control rather than advance.

Kin wants to work for an arm triangle but Makounchi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Kin tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Makounchi defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Kin.

Kin working for a submission but Makounchi is keeping him at bay.
Makounchi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kin on the ground.

Makounchi is in a horrible position here. Kin smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Kin is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Kin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Makounchi sprawls well initially but Kin persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Kin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Kin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kin moves nicely into side control.
Makounchi on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Kin is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Makounchi will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kin decides to stand back up. Kin steps back and let's Makounchi get back to his feet.

Makounchi tries to sprawl but Kin drives through with a takedown into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kin decides to return to a standing position.
Kin tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Kin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Makounchi's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Winson Kin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Kin moves into range and clinches up with Makounchi.
Makounchi wants to break the clinch but can't.
Makounchi is looking to break free of the clinch but Kin has double underhooks.

Kin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A telegraphed right hand from Makounchi misses the target.
Kin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Makounchi.
Makounchi fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Kin gets a double leg takedown into Makounchi's guard.
Makounchi wants to get back to his feet but Kin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kin controlling from the top position.
Makounchi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kin is controlling him.

Kin is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Kin forces his way into half guard.
Kin with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Winson Kin was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kin in particular looking to stall.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Winson Kin hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Makounchi blocks a head kick by Kin.
Kin shoots in for a takedown but Makounchi shows good takedown defense.

Kin stands up and waves to Makounchi to follow him.
Ippo Makounchi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Makounchi swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

And that's the end of the fight!
Winson Kin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
