PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Check Box (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Prezario (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Prezario has chosen Step Up as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Check Box!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Prezario!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Prezario gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Box counters with a straight right hand.
Prezario is trying hard to land a takedown here. Box sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Prezario shoots in and gets a takedown into Box's guard.
Box is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Prezario wants to control from the top but Box keeps moving.
Box knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Prezario on the ground.
Box controls Prezario momentarily but Prezario frees himself.

Prezario drops back looking for a leg! Box is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Box manages to kick Prezario off! Prezario jumps back into Box's guard.
Prezario trying to move into half guard but instead Box has managed to sweep!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Prezario is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Prezario looking for a guillotine here but Box defends easily.
Prezario is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Prezario wants to sweep here but Box controlling him for the moment.
Prezario keeping moving, preventing Box from controlling successfully.

Prezario trying to keep a closed guard but Box is proving a slippery customer.

Box got a little sloppy there for a moment and Prezario has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Box has managed to get both his arms back between Prezario's legs - danger averted.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Box trying to stand up but can't free himself from Prezario's guard.

Prezario working for submissions but it's allowed Box to get to half guard.
Prezario gets back to full guard.
Prezario seems keen to control Box's posture.

Box stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Prezario swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Prezario is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Prezario is keen to just control but Box is a slippery customer.

Prezario is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Box defends it well.
Prezario moves nicely into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Box is not content to let Prezario control the position.

Box gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Prezario controlling from mount.
Prezario tries to control but Box wriggling away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Prezario is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Box to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Box shrugs it off.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Prezario dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Prezario tries to clinch up but Box circles away and keeps his distance.
Box throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Prezario's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Box connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Prezario scrambles back to his feet.
John Prezario seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Prezario darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Box trying to hold on to Prezario's head to control him but Prezario postures up.
Box tries to roll over but Prezario keeps him under control.

Prezario is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Box is just riding it out for now. Prezario eventually gives up the hold.

Prezario is working for a submission of some sort.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Prezario is trying to work for a kimura but Box is defending well.

Prezario wants to work for an arm triangle but Box is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Prezario seems to be looking for submissions.
Prezario seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Box does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Prezario prevents Box from improving his position.
Prezario has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Box is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Prezario looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Prezario is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Box to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Box shrugs it off.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Prezario is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Box can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Box is squirming around, avoiding Prezario's attempts to control the action.

Prezario sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Box is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Box tries to reverse the position but Prezario maintains control.
Prezario looking to control but Box is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Box can't escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Prezario wants to control the pace but Box is squirming around nicely.

Prezario working for a submission but Box is keeping him at bay.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Prezario jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Box is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Box and Prezario has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Prezario showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice cross by Box.

Box closes the distance and clinches.
Box is trying to push Prezario away but Prezario has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Prezario is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Box breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A left and a right from Box both land. Nice combination.
Prezario misses with a takedown attempt - Box sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Box looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Box lands with a shot to the body.
Box misses with a body shot.
A slow jab from Box misses its intended target.
Box throws a series of punches but Prezario moves out of range.
Prezario closes this distance looking for a takedown but Box circles away.
Check Box has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Prezario.

Prezario closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Box is staying active underneath Prezario, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Well, if Prezario is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
John Prezario has got the better of the ground game so far.
Box is in trouble now - Prezario has advanced to mount!
Box is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Prezario has control of Box's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Box regains control of the situation pretty easily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Prezario swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). John Prezario!
After the fight, John Prezario was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
