Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ned Masterson!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masterson throws a head kick that misses.

Masterson content to slow the pace in the clinch.

KwonDo wants the takedown. Masterson is fighting it off but KwonDo persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Masterson's guard against the ropes.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Masterson throws a sloppy head kick and KwonDo moves out of range easily.
KwonDo keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Masterson tries to bum rush KwonDo with a series of wild strikes but KwonDo uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Masterson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

KwonDo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than KwonDo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

KwonDo thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
KwonDo is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Masterson can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Masterson is squirming around, avoiding KwonDo's attempts to control the action.
Masterson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with KwonDo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
KwonDo scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Masterson?

KwonDo fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Masterson is rocked!
KwonDo throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
KwonDo is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Masterson is still in real trouble! Can KwonDo finish him?
KwonDo lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Poor strikes thrown by KwonDo there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Masterson seems to have recovered his senses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
KwonDo is landing with some decent strikes but Masterson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

KwonDo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Masterson to the mat! Masterson manages to get full guard.
Masterson pulls KwonDo in close to his closed guard and prevents KwonDo from doing any damage or advancing position.

KwonDo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

KwonDo is tying to control. Masterson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
KwonDo stalling away here and it's allowed Masterson to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

KwonDo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Masterson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Masterson has KwonDo pulled in close to control his posture.
KwonDo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
KwonDo trying to control but Masterson is working from the bottom.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting KwonDo here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
KwonDo tries to clinch but Masterson is having none of it.
KwonDo takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Masterson throws a head kick that KwonDo semi-blocks.


It looks like Rex KwonDo has been cut.
Masterson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Masterson connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Masterson scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. KwonDo doesn't seem bothered though.
KwonDo blocks a head kick by Masterson.

KwonDo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Masterson's waist but Masterson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing KwonDo off to one side.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Masterson has had enough of the clinch but KwonDo keeps him there for the moment.
KwonDo drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Masterson gets the underhooks and prevents it.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

KwonDo postures up in Masterson's guard and throws a big left but Masterson blocks it.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

KwonDo uses his free foot to push down on Masterson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Masterson.

KwonDo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Masterson, who protects the arm well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

KwonDo throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Masterson works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
