Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roberto Umberto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Umberto has chosen Perry Como - Magic Moments as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chuck Liddell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Roberto Umberto!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Umberto fails to land with a series of punches.
Umberto misses with a double jab.
Chuck Liddell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Liddell takes one to the chin there.
Liddell misses the shot to the body.
Liddell takes a swing at Umberto's ribcage but misses.
Umberto fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Liddell misses with a two punch combination.
Liddell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Good work by Liddell as he checks the leg kick.
Umberto keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Liddell scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Umberto fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Liddell feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Umbertos jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Liddell misses with a looping left.
Umberto misses with a low kick.
Umberto looks for a takedown but Liddell sprawls well.
Liddell uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Chuck Liddell is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Umberto moves away from the strike by Liddell.
A jab from Liddell misses.
The fighters circling - Umberto throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Umberto throws an overhand right that lands on Liddell's shoulder, as Liddell tries to avoid the shot.
Umberto is looking to land body kicks.
Umberto misses with a hook.
Liddell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Umberto manages to avoid it.

Umberto shoots in and bounces Liddell off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Liddell looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Umberto is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Umberto tries to free his leg and advance position but Liddell is retaining full guard.

Umberto throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Liddell works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Umberto passes Liddell's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Liddell is looking to improve his position.

Umberto has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Umberto misses with a head shot. Liddell uses the momentum to regain guard.

Umberto drops back looking for a leg! Liddell is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Liddell manages to kick Umberto off! Umberto jumps back into Liddell's guard.
Umberto passes Liddell's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Liddell is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Umberto scores with a couple of nice shots.
Umberto not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Umberto is trying to control the action in half guard but Liddell is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Umberto thows a huge punch but Liddell dodges it nicely.
Umberto working over Liddell with some ground and pound. Liddell looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Umberto not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Liddell on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Liddell tries to get out of the position.

Umberto is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Liddell is just riding it out for now. Umberto eventually gives up the hold.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Umberto thows a huge punch but Liddell dodges it nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Umberto wants to take a breather but Liddell is having none of it.
Umberto lands with a punch from half guard.
Umberto is trying to control the action in half guard but Liddell is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roberto Umberto dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


No joy there for Umberto, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Umberto takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Liddell misses with a few strikes there.
Umberto uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Liddell.
Liddell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Umberto manages to avoid it.
Chuck Liddell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Umberto avoids a punch combination nicely.
Liddell throws a series of punches but Umberto moves out of range.
Umberto's jab looks to have found its range, popping Liddell under the eye.
Liddell ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Umberto clobbers Liddell with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Umberto tried to score with a low kick but Liddell checks it.
Umberto swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Umberto throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Umberto throws a shot from downtown. Liddell moves away and avoids it.
Liddell throws the left hand but Umberto avoids the punch easily.
Umberto misses the jab.
Liddell jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Umberto shoots in for a takedown but Liddell shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Liddell lands a jab.
Umberto rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Liddell moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Umberto tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Umberto shoots in and drives through. Liddell sprawls well.
Umberto looks to throw the jab but Liddell is out of range.
Umberto cracks Liddell with an open hand slap.
Umberto throws a hook but Liddell avoids it easily.

Liddell gets caught napping as Umberto dives in and scores a takedown. Liddell manages to retain guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Liddell wants to sweep but no luck.
Roberto Umberto has got the better of the ground game so far.
Liddell wants to hit a switch here but Umberto passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Liddell there!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Umberto can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Liddell is looking to escape.

Liddell is rocked!
Umberto postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Liddell in real trouble here! The ref calls for Liddell to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
