PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Son (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Son comes into a darkened arena with his song building. I WILL BE HEARD kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Daniel Son told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyson Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Son!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Son tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.

Jones instigates a clinch.
Jones can't break the clinch.
Jones wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Son breaks the clinch.
Son throws a right and a left that both miss.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.
Jones has had enough of the clinch but Son keeps him there for the moment.
Son throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Jones blocks it with crossed arms.
Jones wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Son wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Jones tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Jones is trying to stall.
Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Son gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jones blocks a head kick by Son.
Son tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Son feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Son drops back looking for a leg! Jones is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jones manages to kick Son off! Son jumps back into Jones's guard.
Jones wants to stand but Son is controlling the position.
Jones looking to hit a scissor sweep but Son is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Son with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Jones wants to get back to his feet but Son is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Son content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Jones is looking to stand up but Son isn't so interested in that idea.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Son accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Son's guard.
Son wants to sweep but no luck.

Jones decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jones fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Son manages to avoid it.
Son lands with an uppercut that bounces Jones off the cage and back into rage.


It looks like Tyson Jones has been cut.
Son shoots in but no luck this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Son scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Son working the ground and pound.
Son grinds an elbow into Jones's temple.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Son goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Jones rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Son's guard! Nice work there by Jones!

Son is working an open guard so Jones takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jones wants to clinch
and Son counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Jones moves into the clinch.
Son tries for a takedown. No joy.
Son misses with a knee to the head.
Jones is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Jones is trying to stall.
Son has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Jones is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Tyson Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Son.

Jones gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Son lands with a heel strike from the guard.
Jones wanted to stand there but Son had control of the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Son keeping full guard, as Jones tries to pass.
Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Jones with a nice head shot there.
Jones sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Son's guard.
Son is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Son strikes from the bottom but Jones uses the opportunity to move to side control.
Son is not content to let Jones control the position.

Jones decides to stand up, so the ref orders Son to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Son checks the leg kick nicely there.

Jones moves into the clinch successfully.
Son letting Jones take a breather here.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
No joy there for Jones, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Jones gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Son tries to land a knee to the head but Jones blocks with his arms.

Son drags the fight down to the ground.
Jones working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Son's head.
Jones won't allow Son to sweep him here.
Jones is looking to stand up but Son won't let him.

Son working for a triangle but Jones defends it easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Son works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tyson Jones will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Tyson Jones's cut.
That's time! Jones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Son tries to move into range but Jones moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Some wild striking there from Jones.
Son misses with a hook to the body

and Jones counters by moving into the clinch.
with the fighters clinched against the cage, Jones creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Jones rushes Son and presses him up against the cage.
Jones leaning his opponent against the cage.
Jones wants to break the clinch but can't.

Jones manages to break the clinch.

Son gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Son is retaining full guard.
Son manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jones manages to get himself to full guard.
Son is working Jones over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Jones looking for a sweep. Not yet Jones, not yet.
Son is pushing down on Jones's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jones is fighting to maintain full guard but Son has managed to sneak the leg through.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Son prevents Jones from standing back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Son is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Son eventually gives up the hold.
Son lands strikes from half guard.
Son working over Jones with some ground and pound. Jones looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Jones is pressing down on Son's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Son trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jones throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Jones is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Son is in close to Jones's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Jones is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Jones throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Daniel Son has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones looking for a triangle here. Son is fighting it but it looks tight! Jones pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Son is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Tyson Jones!
