Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cody Mckenzie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Maia!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mckenzie moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Maia has taken the fight to the clinch.
Maia can't find room to land a body shot as Mckenzie controls the action.
Mckenzie really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Maia breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Maia gets a clinch.

Maia ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Maia no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Mckenzie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Maia looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mckenzie is one step ahead there.

Mckenzie drops back, looking for a kneebar! Maia looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Maia looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Maia!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Maia tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Mckenzie sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Maia decides to return to a standing position.
Mckenzie has his takedown stuffed

and Maia counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maia trying to control the action but Mckenzie is working from the bottom.
Mckenzie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mckenzie.
Maia advances to half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mckenzie gets back to full guard.

Maia wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Mckenzie's closed guard. He's half up but Mckenzie has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Mckenzie pivots and extends the arm, Maia falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Mckenzie! Well done that man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Cody Mckenzie!
