Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matthew Steele!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yuuki Gou and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steele chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Wellington can pounce on him.
Steele shoots and misses
and Wellington counters with a straight right hand.
Steele shoots for a double leg takedown but Wellington sprawls well. He's pushed Steele's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Steele shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wellington sprawls well. Wellington wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Steele gets slowly back to his feet.
Graham Wellington has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matthew Steele.
Wellington feints and then cracks Steele's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Steele down.
Wellington connects with a body shot that sends Steele's belly button to the back.
Wellington displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Steele.

Wellington fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Steele looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Wellington throws a body kick that misses.

Steele fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Wellington sprawls well initially but Steele persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Wellington is trying to control but can't.
Steele wants to pass the guard but Wellington is defending well.
Steele uses his free foot to push down on Wellington's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Wellington.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wellington is looking to improve his position but Steele isn't that keen on the idea.
Steele throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Wellington on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Wellington tries to get out of the position.

Wellington tries to lock up and control but Steele gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Steele wants to finish this one by submission but Wellington is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Steele.

Wellington keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Steele trying to control but Wellington is having none of it.
Wellington holds on, trying desperately to control.
Wellington is looking to improve his position but Steele isn't that keen on the idea.
Steele wants to take his opponent's back but Wellington doesn't allow it.

Wellington is squirming around, avoiding Steele's attempts to control the action.
Wellington wants to control but Steele is having none of it.
Steele looking to control but Wellington is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Steele is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Wellington to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Wellington shrugs it off.
Wellington is trying to escape the mount.

Steele content just to control the position here.
Wellington tries to hold on but Steele pushes him away.
Wellington avoids a series of strikes thrown by Steele.

Steele unloads with some shots from mount but Wellington bucks and avoids them well.
Steele trying to control but Wellington is having none of it.
Steele has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Steele takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wellington is looking to get to half guard.
Steele thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Wellington reaches up to try and control the position but Steele seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Wellington rolls and tries to escape and now Steele has his back!

Steele is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Steele throwing wild punches that miss their target.
Steele slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
It looks like Steele might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wellington is trying to remain composed but Steele is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Steele sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Wellington taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 8:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Matthew Steele!
Matthew Steele really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that [CBK] The Smashwear Corporation logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
