Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zaur Gubiev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tee Winner!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Eliza Hachem and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gubiev shoots in and drives through. Winner sprawls well.

Winner has closed the distance and engaged Gubiev in a clinch.

and Winner counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Gubiev!

Winner with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Winner is landing with some decent strikes but Gubiev is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Winner tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Gubiev might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Gubiev drops back looking for a leg! Winner is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Winner manages to kick Gubiev off! Gubiev jumps back into Winner's guard.

Gubiev thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Gubiev drops back, looking for a kneebar! Winner looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Winner looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Winner!
Gubiev manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Gubiev is working for a kimura but Winner is defending it quite comfortably.

Gubiev is working for a submission of some sort.

Gubiev is looking for a kimura but Winner is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gubiev to get the leverage.

Gubiev is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Winner sees it coming and defends easily.
Winner moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Winner is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Gubiev postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Winner is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gubiev, into his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gubiev has his foot on Winner's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Winner works his way back into a safe position though.

Gubiev escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Winner gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Winner trying to control but Gubiev is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tee Winner will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Winner tries to clinch there but Gubiev circles away.

Gubiev drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Winner is looking to reverse the position.

Gubiev tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gubiev has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Winner tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gubiev wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Winner wants to control but Gubiev postures up.
Winner tries to improve position but can't.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Winner can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gubiev thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Winner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gubiev. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Winner tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

Gubiev goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Winner rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Gubiev's guard! Nice work there by Winner!

Gubiev is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Winner frees his head nicely. Oh but Gubiev has switched to an armbar! Winner is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
