The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Forbes looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Maldonado is not content to let Forbes control the position.

Maldonado moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Forbes throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Forbes wants to control from the top but Maldonado keeps moving.

Maldonado has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Forbes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Maldonado has a closed guard, preventing Forbes from standing up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Maldonado working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Forbes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Forbes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Forbes tries to free his leg and advance position but Maldonado is retaining full guard.

Forbes makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Forbes wants to control from the top but Maldonado keeps moving.

Forbes is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Maldonado has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Forbes is looking to defend but Maldonado has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Forbes! Maldonado pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Forbes taps out and this one is all over!

A determined Sergio Maldonado didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
