The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tony fails in his attempt to clinch.
Tony tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gatez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Tony uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Gatez swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Tony tries a head kick but it misses.
Tony ducks right into an uppercut from Gatez.
Tony moves out of range of the strikes.

and Gatez counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Gatez throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Tony stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Tony throws a sloppy head kick and Gatez moves out of range easily.
Tony throws out a loose jab but Gatez uses good head movement to avoid it.
Tony misses with a looping left.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gatez connects with a single shot there.
Tony shoots in and drives through. Gatez sprawls well.

A nice inside leg kick there by Gatez. That's going to slow Tony down.
Jab, jab by Gatez - just one landing.
Gatez throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Tony's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Gatez dives in looking to finish as Tony flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Gatez's strikes! Gatez is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Tony's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Tony was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
