PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tommy McCall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Uolevi Gepardi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCall comes to the cage accompanied by Biffy Clyro - Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Uolevi Gepardi!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gepardi shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches McCall napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Gepardi wants to take a breather but McCall manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Gepardi.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
McCall postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Gepardi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McCall swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McCall looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gepardi is one step ahead there.
Gepardi pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McCall is keeping the position for now.
Gepardi is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Gepardi is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by McCall.
McCall feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Gepardi's calf.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


McCall walks into a left hand.
Gepardi lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
McCall ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
McCall swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Gepardi swings for the body but McCall moves out of range.
McCall throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
McCall defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gepardi.

Gepardi swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by McCall.

McCall tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gepardi was well out of range. Poor timing from McCall.
Gepardi shoots in looking for a takedown but McCall manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gepardi's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
McCall fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gepardi has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Gepardi shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. McCall manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

McCall is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McCall accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McCall won't allow Gepardi to sweep him here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

McCall decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Gepardi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McCall tries to avoid it but Gepardi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McCall to the ground. McCall escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tommy McCall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Uolevi Gepardi.

McCall comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

McCall fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Gepardi to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Gepardi looks to clinch but McCall throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Gepardi taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
