Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeremy Toney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leo Rua!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua shoots and misses
and Toney cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Toney keeps the fight on the outside.
Rua closes the distance and clinches up with Toney, looking for a takedown. Rua pushes Toney against the cage but Toney circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Rua takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Rua misses with a takedown attempt
and Toney counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Jeremy Toney has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leo Rua.
Rua looks to land a body kick but Toney moved away.
Toney cracks Rua with a right hand to the side of the head.
Horrible takedown by Rua or perhaps it was just good defense by Toney which made him look bad.

and Toney counters with a straight right hand.

and Toney cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Rua tries to close the distance and clinch but Toney swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rua pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Toney lands with an overhand left.

and Toney counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Rua thinking.
Rua shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Toney lands with a cross.
Rua tries to clinch but Toney moves out of range.
Toney dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Rua closes the distance and clinches up with Toney, looking for a takedown. Rua pushes Toney against the cage but Toney circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Toney lands a lovely overhand right.
Rua shoots and misses
and Toney counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Rua tries to clinch up but Toney circles away and keeps his distance.
Toney moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Rua wants to clinch.
Rua takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Rua walks into a stiff left hand from Toney.
A head kick misses from Rua.
Rua has his takedown stuffed
and Toney counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rua doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Toney to counter with a crisp jab.
Rua shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Toney counters with a lovely shot to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!

letting Toney counter with a right hand.

Toney is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.

Toney gets underhooks to prevent Rua's takedown attempt.

Rua tries to score a body lock takedown but Toney shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Rua pulls guard successfully.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Leo Rua has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Rua fails to land the takedown.
Rua misses with a takedown
and Toney cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Rua gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Toney counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Rua thinking.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jeremy Toney will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Rua is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Rua shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Rua takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
A nice combination there by Toney.

Good anti-grappling being displayed by Rua as Toney tries to tie him up.

Rua jumps into guard, dragging Toney to the mat.
Rua is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rua thows a huge punch but Toney dodges it nicely.

Rua is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Toney sees it coming and defends easily.
Rua perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Rua missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Rua passes to side control.

Rua is working to tighten is grip on Toney's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Toney has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Rua is really squeezing tight and eventually Toney passes out! Rua breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Leo Rua!
