PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gerardo Del Muro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renan Ruas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruas comes into a darkened arena with his song building. ATB- Could you believe kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The key to victory for Gerardo Del Muro has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gerardo Del Muro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Renan Ruas!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Matheus Silva and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Del Muro checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Ruas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Del Muro fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ruas misses with a head kick.
Ruas thows a body shot but no joy.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ruas. Del Muro does a little dance to reset his feet.

Ruas with a nice cross.
Del Muro tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Ruas manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Del Muro misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
No luck for Ruas with that takedown attempt.

Ruas throws a lazy right hand but Del Muro sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Ruas throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Ruas connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Ruas throws a hook but Del Muro blocks it.

Del Muro gets caught napping as Ruas dives in and scores a takedown. Del Muro manages to retain guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Del Muro seems keen to control Ruas's posture.
Ruas pushes down on Del Muro's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Let's hope that Ruas has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gerardo Del Muro wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Ruas closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ruas is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Del Muro will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Del Muro tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ruas wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Ruas tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Ruas decides to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Del Muro's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Ruas fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Del Muro manages to avoid it.
Ruas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Ruas looking to score a takedown here. Del Muro is defending well but Ruas drives through and ends up in Del Muro's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Del Muro holds on and takes a little breather.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Ruas counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Del Muro thinking.

Del Muro moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Renan Ruas has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ruas is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Del Muro rather than just go for the knockout.
Ruas tries to bum rush Del Muro with a series of wild strikes but Del Muro uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Ruas shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Del Muro defends it nicely.

Del Muro throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ruas avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ruas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ruas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Del Muro's waist but Del Muro gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ruas off to one side.

Ruas shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ruas throws a jab when Del Muro was well out of range.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Del Muro has had enough of the clinch but Ruas keeps him there for the moment.

Ruas is pushing Del Muro up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A frustrated look appears on Del Muro's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Ruas tries to score a body lock takedown but Del Muro shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Del Muro takes the fight into the clinch.
Del Muro struggles to land a body shot inside as Ruas controls his hands.

Ruas turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Ruas manages to end up in side control.
Ruas gets to mount! Del Muro was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Ruas tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Del Muro tries to reverse the position but Ruas maintains control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Del Muro wants to hold on but Ruas pushes him away.
Del Muro is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ruas is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Gerardo Del Muro just wasn't active enough.
Ruas jabs Del Muro to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Ruas closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Del Muro to the mat! Del Muro manages to get full guard.

Renan Ruas has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Ruas takes a swing at Del Muro's ribcage but misses.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ruas misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ruas walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Ruas throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ruas swings for the body but Del Muro moves out of range.

Del Muro fails in his attempt to clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Del Muro uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ruas.

And that's the end of the fight!
Renan Ruas comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ruas has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
