PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and King Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, King Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harris fails with a takedown attempt.
Johnson tries to clinch up.
Harris misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Harris misses with a body shot.
Harris stuffs the takedown.
Harris stuffs the takedown attempt from Johnson. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet.
Harris throws a one two combo.
Harris closes the distance and clinches up with Johnson, looking for a takedown. Harris pushes Johnson against the cage but Johnson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Harris dives in and grabs Johnson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes down on Harris's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Harris. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Harris is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Harris trying to control the position but instead, Johnson has worked for underhooks and has pushed Harris into the cage.
Johnson can't find room to land a body shot as Harris controls the action.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Johnson crunches a lovely knee into Harris's ribcage.
Harris is breathing heavily.
Harris is looking to take this one to the mat.
Harris tries to break the clinch but Johnson is controlling the position.
Johnson lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Harris is pressed up against the cage. Johnson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Harris down to the mat. Harris avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Harris shoots in looking for a takedown but Johnson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Harris's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Harris fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Johnson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Harris quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Harris has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Johnson is working away from the top position though.
Johnson prevents Harris from improving his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Johnson works his way into side control.
Harris is looking for a sweep.
Harris is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
You can see the frustration on Harris's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Johnson decides to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

King Johnson dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Johnson tries to clinch there but Harris circles away.
Harris is looking to clinch but Johnson is avoiding it.
Harris looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
King Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Harris shoots in looking for a takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl out of it but Harris keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Johnson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Johnson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Harris is fending him off so far but Johnson persists. Nope, Harris circles away and we're back to standing.

Johnson lands an elbow just above Harris 's eye.
Johnson is pressed up against the cage. Harris has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Johnson down to the mat. Johnson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Johnson is looking to clinch but Harris is avoiding it.

Harris gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Harris has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Johnson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Harris is controlling him.

Harris decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Harris throws a shot to the body.
Johnson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Johnson is trying to maintain a safe position but Harris gets an underhook and turns Johnson into the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Harris will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Johnson up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

King Johnson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Harris moves to clinch but Johnson breaks away

and Johnson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Johnson.
Johnson is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Harris is keeping busy.

Johnson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Johnson is staying active underneath Harris, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Harris decides to return to a standing position.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Johnson.

A frustrated look appears on Harris's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Harris is trying to pull guard but Johnson has him pressed against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Johnson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Harris uses from the top position.

We're going to have a standup here because Paul Harris wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Harris shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Johnson pinned against the cage. Johnson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Johnson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Paul Harris has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
King Johnson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Paul Harris.
I think Johnson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
