The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Couture fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Couture tries for a takedown but Shinjeki sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Shinjeki doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Couture counters with a single leg into guard. Shinjeki didn't expect that.
Shinjeki keeping full guard, as Couture tries to pass.
Couture sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Shinjeki's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Couture stands up and beckons Shinjeki to join him on the feet.
Shinjeki fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shinjeki shoots in looking for a takedown but Couture manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Shinjeki's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Randy Couture has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miyamoto Shinjeki.
Couture shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Shinjeki defends it nicely.

Couture manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Couture fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shinjeki, pushing him back against the cage.

Couture pulls guard effortlessly.
Couture is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Shinjeki looking to sit in guard and control but Couture gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shinjeki can do anything to dispel that myth.
Couture pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shinjeki is keeping the position for now.

Couture could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Couture has hold of Shinjeki's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Shinjeki seems comfortable defending it but Couture has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Shinjeki is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Shinjeki is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Couture couldn't care less - he's delighted!
