PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mohammad Malik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keiji Numa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Malik kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Stronger. Numa has chosen Ladies and Gentlemen as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Mohammad Malik has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mohammad Malik seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mohammad Malik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Keiji Numa!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malik shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Numa as he jumps to the side.
Numa with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Numa leaves Malik with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Malik takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Malik fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mohammad Malik. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Numa closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Numa fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Numa leaves Malik with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Malik closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Numa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Numa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Mohammad Malik is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Malik takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Malik fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Numa avoids it really well and circles away.
Numa lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Numa feints and as Malik raises his hands in defense, Numa changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Numa drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Numa jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Numa is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Malik defends it well.

Horrible takedown by Malik or perhaps it was just good defense by Numa which made him look bad.
Nice takedown defense from Numa. No joy for Malik on that attempt.
Numa swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Malik takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Mohammad Malik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Malik dives in and grabs Numa's left leg, looking for a takedown. Numa pushes down on Malik's head and hops out.

Numa drives through with a takedown into Malik's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Numa postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Numa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Keiji Numa hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Keiji Numa is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Malik can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Numa controls the pace.

Keiji Numa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Numa has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
