PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ray Mounds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Satan Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mounds kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is "Automatic" by Less Than Jake. Smith has chosen Walk by Pantera as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mounds cracks Smith with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Mounds has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Smith to stand back up!
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mounds as he jumps to the side.
Mounds lands a slapping body shot.
Smith looks gassed!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mounds misses with the combination.
Smith throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mounds's waist but Mounds gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smith off to one side.
Smith closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mounds circles away.
Ray Mounds has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Satan Smith.
A chopping leg kick lands by Mounds.
Mounds tries to score with a low kick but Smith moves his leg out of the way.
Mounds does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Mounds throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Mounds throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Smith.
Oooh a lovely combination from Mounds sends Smith down but not out. Mounds dives into side control looking to finish.

Smith is rocked!

It looks like Satan Smith has been cut.
Mounds slows the pace down.
Smith is still in real trouble! Can Mounds finish him?

Mounds has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Smith seems to have recovered his senses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Smith takes one on the button.
Mounds throws a nice looking combination but Smith bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Smith avoids the head kick by Mounds.
Mounds catches Smith napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Smith to the canvas!

Smith is looking for a triangle here but Mounds uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Mounds tries to stand but Smith is controlling his head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith is looking to reverse the position.
Mounds tries to stand but Smith is controlling his head.
Mounds knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

Mounds stands up.
Mounds ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Mounds tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mounds throws a head kick that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mounds throws a right and a left that Smith avoids nicely.
Mounds closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Smith looks for a takedown but Mounds sprawls well.
Mounds lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Smith backs up against the cage.
Left hook, right uppercut from Mounds.
Mounds throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mounds tries a low kick but Smith avoids it.

Smith has closed the distance and engaged Mounds in a clinch.
Mounds wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Mounds wants to break the clinch but can't.
Smith drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mounds gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Mounds wants to break the clinch but can't.

Smith tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Smith tries to land knees in the clinch but Mounds avoids the damage to the body.
Smith keeps control of Mounds as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Mounds has had enough of the clinch but Smith keeps him there for the moment.
Mounds is working Smith over against the cage.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Smith uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mounds.
Mounds throws a combination. Smith tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Smith drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mounds striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ray Mounds dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Satan Smith's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Smith gets the takedown into side control.

Smith stands up and beckons Mounds to his feet.
Mounds throws a series of punches but Smith avoids them all with ease.
Mounds lands a nice hook to Smith's body. Smith takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Mounds throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Smith stumbling backwards into the cage! Smith bounces back off the cage towards Mounds, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Mounds lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Mounds celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
