PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Dang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eric Dang told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eric Dang!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, William Peck and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone misses the shot to the body.
Stone is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A low kick from Stone misses
and Dang counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Eric Dang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stone drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Dang misses with an uppercut. Stone saw that one coming.
Dang throws a low kick but Stone moves out of range easily.
Dang digs a good hook to Stone's body.
Stone looks to land a left hand but Dang moved out of range nicely.
Stone misses with a body shot.

Stone moves out of range as Dang strikes.
Dang misses with a wild combination.
A looping hook to the body misses from Stone. Dang does a little dance to reset his feet.
Stone tries to clinch there but Dang circles away.

Stone closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Stone trying to mount his opponent but Dang defends it.

Stone is working for a kimura but Dang is defending it quite comfortably.

Stone working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Dang's thigh. Dang counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Stone working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Stone trying to control the position from guard on top but Dang is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stone trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dang can do anything to dispel that myth.
Dang keeping moving, preventing Stone from controlling successfully.
Stone looking to sit in guard and control but Dang gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Stone is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dang defends well.

Stone is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dang is aware though and is defending well.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Stone is trying to control the position but Dang postures up.

Stone working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Dang has passed into half guard!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Dang thows a body shot but no joy.
Dang throws a one two combo.

Stone drives through with a takedown into guard.
Stone trying to control the position from guard on top but Dang is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Stone drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dang manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Stone has Dang in his guard.

Stone is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Stone looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Stone has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Dang is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Stone.

Stone struggling a bit here.
Stone is trying to get back to half guard.

Stone tries to control but Dang manages to take his back.
Dang has the hooks in. Stone is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Dang doesn't have the hooks in and Stone manages to turn into his guard.
Stone trying to control but Dang is working from the bottom.

Stone postures up in Dang's guard and throws a big left but Dang blocks it.
Stone looking to sit in guard and control but Dang gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Stone trying to strike off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Stone dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Dang takes a swing at Stone's ribcage but misses.
Dang misses with a double jab.
Dang will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Stone shoots in looking for a takedown but Dang manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Stone's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stone shoots in for a takedown but Dang shows good takedown defense.
Dang fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Stone checks it well.
A nice inside leg kick there by Dang. That's going to slow Stone down.

Stone tries to close the distance and clinch but Dang swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Dang scores with a jab to the jaw.
Dang throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Stone doesn't manage to clinch there - Dang circles away.
Stone throws a body punch but Dang moves out of range.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Stone lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Dang has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Dang and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Stone blocks a jab.
Jack Stone is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Stone swings for the body but Dang moves out of range.
Good shot there by Dang.
A looping hook to the body misses from Stone. Dang does a little dance to reset his feet.
Dang throws an overhand right that lands on Stone's shoulder, as Stone tries to avoid the shot.
Stone takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Stone keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Dang.
Eric Dang seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Stone misses with a wild body shot.

Dang lands a nice hook to Stone's body. Stone takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Stone looks to score with a jab to the body but Dang is just out of range.
Stone takes a swing at Dang's ribcage but misses.
Stone throws a body punch but Dang moves out of range.
Stone misses the body punch
enabling Dang to counter with a crisp jab.

Stone closes the distance and clinches.
Dang lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Stone backwards.

Dang breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Eric Dang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Dang thows a left - swing and a miss!
Stone misses with a body shot
and Dang counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Dang fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Stone manages to avoid it.
Stone ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dang moves away.
Dang waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Stone.
Stone uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Dang.
Dang fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Stone manages to avoid it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Eric Dang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Stone has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
